Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch. Repeat winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

    Made reservations to enjoy dinner with the family when a large group arrived and was extremely loud. They were moving chairs, the table behind us had all the kids sitting and were extremely loud. We tried to speak to manager but she was too busy helping the large party get their seats. Made our dinning experience unpleasant our waiter couldn’t assist us because he was occupied by this large party. We decided to ask for our check & left. On our way out we tried to speak to manager and she could careless about our situation. We drove 30 minutes to enjoy a pleasant New Year’s Eve dinner and had the worst time.

    I’d forgotten how much I enjoy Il Fornaio - especially the Del Mar location. We went for an impromptu dinner and were treated to a great meal and wonderful service by Bernardo. I had the grilled salmon and my dinner companion enjoyed the pasta Bolgonese. Overall, a really lovely evening.

    We love Il Fornio at Del Mar Plaza and it has been our Christmas Eve tradition for over 25 years. We hope Il Fornio will always be at the plaza and our adult children plan to carry on this annual family favorite. We also enjoy Il Fornio throughout the year and have had many celebrations there❤️

    We wanted to celebrate our new film with a little wine and dinner at the bar. Liam was the perfect host to make that happen. Service was top notch, the wine pairings with our meals were excellent and the atmosphere was local and friendly. Thanks for a great night, Liam...you have a great customer-centric attitude!

    Tasty food and great location. It was cold the night we went and we sat indoors, but the patio looked comfortable with heat lamps and I’m guessing it’s spectacular when it’s nice out
