Iron Gate, located near Dupont Circle, stands as one of the district’s oldest continuously operating restaurants and is split between a sumptuous dining room, a wisteria covered patio and a handsomely enclosed carriageway that houses the bar.

Chef Anthony Chittum, a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and his team have revitalized the space with a menu that takes inspiration for the cuisines of Greece, Sicily, Sardinian and Southern Italy, interpreting those traditions and techniques using the finest products and seasonal ingredients of the Mid-Atlantic.

    Food was great! Service/logistics were off as we had reservations but ended up getting seating 50 minutes after our reserved time. Didn’t help some of our mains were forgotten as well. Must have been an off night as we’ve been here several times and service is usually on point.

    Fantastic dining experience. Chef Patrick and the entire crew at Iron Gate are top notch. The Family Table meal is a great way to taste the many items in the menu, which are all very well prepared.

    The ambience is excellent in the fireplace room. The table however was small and crammed into a comer with no room to move a chair even slightly to be comfortable. The food on the "family style" was just average in the reviewer's opinion. Often a mish mash of ingredients thrown together. My wife referred to may dishes as "comfort food." Not what you what expect for a $95 per person dinner.

    Fabulous. Yet on my gosh it was SO MUCH FOOD! And we were jet lagged and not realizing the amount of time it would take for the family menu! 3.5 hours. Thank you so so much for excellent service and a lot of refills on water! Also for the incredible attention to gluten free for my husband. Love it!

    My friend and I dined in the outdoor eating space at Iron Gate where there were impressive fires burning next to each table. We were snug and warm. Our waiter was so welcoming we relaxed and relied on his advice while ordering. Our food was amazing from the tasty welcome dish through the main dish and two delicious desserts. The young woman at the front door went beyond her duties to help us add a second ride to our taxi order. We plan many return visits!

    A wonderful winter destination and superb service. The food is varied and always delicious. Enjoying it in front of the fire on a cold rainy afternoon is just about perfect!!

    We went in December and sat in the main dining room - not the gorgeous patio - and were disappointed with the atmosphere: the tables were cramped next to each other, we felt like we were sharing our table with two others, and the noise level was quite high between people's conversations and the music. The food was tasty and the service was good, it just didn't feel like the romantic experience we were hoping for. The bar area did look like a fun space - maybe for a dinner with a friend - and the patio is amazing when it's warm. Was just hoping for a more cozy, intimate feel in the main dining room.
