Good food but more staff needed to stop wait times for food.

The only thing well cooked was the chef who (was clearly baked) bought a couple of dishes out, we were told it was a sharing menu but given no plates, had to get them ourselves, in the hour and a half we were there waiting for food noone asked how the food was nor offered us another drink nor the water which we asked for. Chaos, rude front of house over busy and nonchalant attitude with no care to food nor people. At the end the very good lady came back and asked how it was I told her how poor it was all but the prawns in a curry leaf type sauce and she kindly got us both a drink on the house. They could nip round the courner to the Pearson Arms and get a lesson in hospitality and service as this was beyond a joke. Not cheap truffle chips are oven fries with a suggestion of truffle oil maybe poured but missed the dish and cold unmelted low grade parmesan. Mackerel over cooked and side element was bathed in salt a table leaving had to grab a spare glass and take some water left on the bar, probably theirs. It was a full restaurant and they didnt have the staff nor expertise to pull it off. Open table comment was for a dog friendly table which they didnt get so a good job we walked in earlier to check.

The food was impeccable & so so flavoursome! I’m still thinking of the Masala Prawn, just incredible. You couldn’t fault the food, but sadly the service as a whole let it down. Nothing the staff did wrong, but the 2 girls working front of house were overwhelmed with the number of tables. I asked if they were understaffed, but they said 2 people was normal. The owners should consider hiring another member, especially during busier times like half term. I’m sure it’s hard to find the balance of staff especially out of season, but knowing things didn’t go to plan I’m sure they’d have booked someone in a heart beat. The food also took some considerable time to come out in general, well worth the wait once received it but if you’re looking for a quick meal/service this isn’t the place for you. The food itself will definitely make me come back, but hopefully we’ll receive a better overall experience next time.

Went for birthday dinner. They have 2 tables a 2 seater and a 4 seater very underwhelming. The site and ambience was not great. They put us in a corner near the staff door that constantly banged each time they went in and out, which was around every 30 seconds. Could not wait to leave. At the end we were just left hanging waiting for the bill. Had to go and ask myself and still had to wait despite them not being busy at the end. The starters were good, main course was ok. The desert was terrible, what a waste of £10 on bread and butter pudding with custard. Dry, with a drop of custard. I think they had ran out of custard so just sprinkled a few drops on the plate.

Nestled in the charming coastal town of Whitstable, Lazy Lobster offers a casual seafood dining experience with an unpretentious atmosphere that perfectly complements its maritime setting. The restaurant's relaxed vibe makes it an ideal spot for both locals and visitors looking to enjoy fresh seafood without the fuss. The service maintains that perfect balance of attentiveness without hovering, adding to the laid-back coastal charm. Their curried prawns deserve particular praise – well-seasoned with a balanced blend of spices that enhance rather than overwhelm the natural sweetness of the shellfish. The stand-out dish, however, was undoubtedly the Tuna Tartare. Expertly prepared, it delivered a delightful spicy kick that elevated the fresh tuna to new heights. Their namesake dish, unfortunately, fell a little short of expectations. While lobster should be the star, it arrived drowning in an overly thick sauce that completely enveloped the delicate meat. The generous portion of sauce seemed to compensate for what felt like considerably less than half a lobster's worth of meat – a disappointing execution of what should be their signature offering. I would have preferred a grilled lobster with a simple garlic butter sauce. Despite this misstep with their flagship dish, Lazy Lobster remains a worthy destination for seafood enthusiasts visiting Whitstable, particularly for those with a fondness for well-executed starters and a relaxed dining experience.

Some really lovely dishes, especially the muscles and the skate. I would suggest that they should have the option of basic oysters, ie with just shallots and simple vinegar dressing.
