Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Le Clown offers "world-class food" with a French flair, featuring standout dishes like duck and crispy frites. Diners rave about the "fantastic wine" pairings and innovative presentations. However, service can be inconsistent, with some finding it "severely lacking." Overall, a culinary delight for those patient with timing.

Even the vegetables in the crudité platter were exceptional! Flavors and presentations were delightful and innovative, while remaining true to French inspired traditions. Service was attentive and it was obvious great care was taken in the kitchen. Go here! Enjoy indulgent vegetables, delicious meats, outstanding use of cheeses, and one of a kind desserts.

The food was disappointing. The foie gras taco was just a mousse, not the same and the taco was tiny, sweet and uninteresting. The beef tare tare was too small and no raw egg or toasted bread that you usually get. The veggie crudite was very average, just some basic grocery store raw veggies and lukewarm cheese sauce, something that I can get from Safeway. The baked chicken was, again, very underwhelming and something you can easily make a home. All this for over $100 plus tip! No thanks.

I cannot emphasize enough how good the food was. I had the poulet frites. The frites were crispy (perfect) and tasty. Likewise, the chicken was outstanding. The sauce especially was creamy and perfectly went with the chicken. The salad we had beforehand was also exceptional. The service however was exceptionally poor. I waited an over 45 minutes (closer to an hour) for my food to arrive. My wife finished her albacore (also excellent) before I even received mine. Apparently, they served mine to the wrong table, but failed to let me know until I asked when I was paying. The server apologized but also just shrugged it off like I had the problem instead of their exceedingly unprofessional service. If you go expect to get marvelous food, but 5 star poor service. It may not be worth it.

Service was lacking severely, our drink orders weren't taken for a quite a while, other tables were overheard complaining their meals didn't show up. Very disorganized. Bread for the table arrived after our first course which was not the case for other tables. We didn't even get a knife with the bread and butter. The food was very salty.

The food was wonderful. My husband and I shared the duck, the pate, the cuttlefish dish. Our waiter was also the wine guy who was also our waiter and helped us chose between the 2 bottles of wine we brought from home (both aged French wines). The corkage fee was a reasonable $20. We will definitely be back.

Le Clown was a mixed bag for us. Service started out nicely attentive but dropped off as the evening progressed to the point we felt rather ignored. Entrees were very slow to arrive. Had to wave to get attention which was bizarre as there were only 2 parties left in the restaurant. We were not asked if we wanted their fancy baked Alaska dessert (yes, would have!), just presented with the bill. Probably kitchen was closing. Salad, roasted peppers, sourdough bread all outstanding, duck breast/sauce super delicious, duck legs so extremely salty one of our party said "almost inedible". IMHO that entree should have been perfection at its $65 price tag.
