From the OpenTable editors: When Le Pigeon opened in 2006, it put Portland on the culinary map. The best seats in the intimate, brick-walled dining room are at the chef’s counter, where you’ll get a front row view of multi-James Beard Award-winner Gabriel Rucker’s dazzling, French-forward dishes. Cap the evening with playful desserts that could include foie gras profiteroles or a glass from the luscious Oregon- and French-centric wine list.

This is the fine dining experience we have been going to since we came to PDX 11 years ago. It rarely disappoints and by that I mean that I only remember one dish that I haven't enjoyed over the that span. We like sitting at the bar because the chefs are always willing to talk and share their knowledge. The staff is very well informed on what they are serving and are also very engaged in the experience. This place is dining perfection in our eyes.

Don’t arrive early for your reservation, they’ll leave you outside in the cold and rain while you stare at your empty table for 30 minutes.

We celebrated my birthday here and were really looking forward to enjoying an incredible meal. The team and service were spot on. What fell short for us was the food unfortunately. We love French cuisine and are adventurous eaters but sadly almost every dish was a let down. The beef carpaccio was just ok and the date spread made it too sweet for our liking. The sturgeon was so smoky that it over powered all the other components on the dish (when we tried each component on their own they were delicious but when you ate them all in one bite all we got was heavy smoke). The cod was very fishy and we found my plate was even more fishy than my partner’s. We love seafood and can tolerate a little flavor of the sea but this aired more on the side of lacking freshness. The Blanquette De Veau was just a complete mess. The veal was very fatty and chewy and was not complimented well by the tripe jasmine rice and sweetbreads. We both were only able to take a couple bites before pushing our plates aside. The last course was a pear tart and while it tasted nice it wasn’t at the caliber that we’d expect from a restaurant at this level. Overall we really wanted to enjoy this meal but it sadly missed the mark by a long shot. The bill was close to $400 for the two of us and we left hungry and dissatisfied. I hope that if we try this again in the future that the experience will be better.
