Even though I live at the other side of London, I love going to Le Vacherin for the regular dishes and the special dinners. I had the Truffle dinner with several friends who also adore truffles. Initially we were shown a fragrant array of raw truffles to be used for our dinner - the aroma stayed with us after the truffles went back to the Kitchen The amuse bouche was a lovely small cup of mushroom soup with a thick texture, topped with a generous layer of black truffle. Very good start! The course of ceviche of Norwegian Halibut was disappointing - a very soft, slimy row of long fillets with insufficient sauce - not what should be done to this firm, delightful fish My companions liked it. The highlight was a perfectly cooked generous beef fillet crowned with foie gras, on a bed of kale. Matched with a Croatian red wine it was worth being there for that one dish. Good value especially when compared with other similar events in central London.

We had been before to the truffle tasting and asked a foodie colleague to join us. The staff were great and gave us a good table and the service was passable as they seemed over-run. The food was very variable. A few courses (amouse bouche and duck) were good but the rest really did not bring out the truffle and were very disappointing. Wine pairing was also mixed...

Having received a telephone call from your wife in the morning offering honest feedback, we are now surprised to find the same comment online after we were told the telephone call would suffice to correct any shortcomings, if any, on the night. Maybe you were waiting for something to happen after the feedback was given so honestly. In a few words :we have provided you with the best table in the restaurant, and we offered a 4-course meal with black and white truffle under the £150 mark where all the wines are sold over the £80 mark. You can see the above comments from people on the night and they loved the truffles, their aroma, and the other dishes, including wines, therefore I suppose we can't please everyone even though we are always open to criticism. We did modify the menu as requested.

Very slow service 1 hour wait for first course and at least 30 mins before main. Lack of choice no Guinea Fowl venison sole available.. chateaubriand was tasteless. I suspect cooked from frozen.Staff pleasant but a very disappointing experience. Not inclined to return. Sorry

Dear Sir, for each item not available anymore, we have done more than 60 covers on the day. You and your guests were given more than valid substitutes. You have waited 35 minutes for your starters as per our till record, but the fact that you imply that our Chateaubriand is frozen is simply preposterous. Maybe your palate is not used to 25-day-old meat. We are very sorry you didn't lt voice any other above on the day, it could have given the restaurant a chance to rectify any shortcomings.

Pretty disappointing experience. Very average aperitifs. For a “french” restaurant the bread served on the table was very poor. Would have been unacceptable in France. It was also dumped on the table and the waiter said over his shoulder as he rushed off “that’s anchovy butter yeah”. Food was pretty underwhelming. Very bland velouté. Took 45 minutes to arrive. Over cooked monkfish.

Dear Sir, thank you for your feedback , it is really appreciated. You have ordered a Negroni and a Grey goose Martini and it is not hard to make them right, I don't understand if you refer to the choice or the execution . No complaints were made on the day. We have picked up a problem with the bread on the night, therefore I apologize deeply, again no mention was made in regards to it. Even the waiter has admitted to poorly presenting the basket of bread and he is very sorry for that, the fact that he was rushed back to the kitchen is not an excuse. No comments were made on the food and everything was paid including the service charge, I just wish you could have mentioned the above on the night giving us a chance to rectify any of the shortcomings highlighted above.
