Before the James Beard Award and the Gourmet Magazine review, Lotus of Siam was a small little hole in the wall located in Commercial Center in Las Vegas. November 1999 was the month Chef Saipin and her husband Bill took over Lotus of Siam. Since then, Thai food became an adventure for those willing to step out of their comfort zones for Asian Cuisine. Chef Saipin’s distinct cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, from both her grandmothers and her husband’s grandmothers. Her northern style cooking has opened America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style of sweet and tang. The northern menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. Through her set menus, our guests can dine and enjoy recipes from over 100 years in the Chutima family.

Add in exceptional pairings from the award-winning 300-bottle wine list, and it’s easy to see why this Vegas institution is beloved by locals and industry insiders alike.

Not what I expected. This restaurant was highly recommended but maybe it was what I ordered. The chicken lollipop was deep fried and average at best. Main course Chicken with basil had a whole bunch of capsicum with no basil. I was told that it was part of the chili basil sause. Disappointed.

We have dined many times at this Lotus of Siam location. But this time, the food was cold when delivered. We also had to wait 30 minutes after our reservation to be seated and then another 35-40 minutes for our food. The Khao Soi was inedible. It has a distinctly fishy flavor in the broth. The Pad Thai was ice cold when served. The soup, Tom Kha was flavorless and also cold when it finally arrived. We were so disappointed and will not go back. There are many other Thai restaurants to choose from.

We were a party of 3. For appetizers we ordered the Penny Ceviche and the Golden Fried Tofu. The ceviche was delicious. I ordered Khao Soi which was a noodle beaded curry flavored dish. I added chicken as the protein and also got a side bowl of rice. In retrospect I should have ordered a dish with vegetables added and no noodles, the sauce was much better with rice. Another member of the party ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with ginger sauce. He was happy with his choice. Our third party member ordered mild Penang Curry with veggies. It was okay, not memorable. Those dishes plus 6 beers came to $195. Not overly expensive but not memorable quality either.

Food was great, but service was so slow. Waited for over half an hour for the food to come out. Our kids got restless waiting so long and it was really noisy.

We live in Arizona, but make it a point to eat at Lotus of Siam at least once a month. The 1.5 hour drive is well worth it! This is definitely our #1 restaurant in Las Vegas!

The food was good but not great. The prices were high for what you got. Want a great value - as the portions were small.

We have gone to this restaurant many time in the past 3 years, but this time, 12/26/23, it was a horrible experience. My wife is Thai and really knows Thai food especially from the Northern part of Thailand. It was also surprising that almost no one working there spoke Thai this time either. Our reservation was honored timely so this was not a problem. However, once we ordered we did not get the first food until about 30 minutes after ordering. The remaining food came as prepared with the final food arriving 50 minutes after ordering. This is totally unacceptable. The two tables next to us had the same problem and there was a lot of complaining. In fact, when I asked the restaurant to do something about this egregious problem, I was told "we don't do that." The quality of the food just wasn't there as it used to be. The Fish Cakes did not taste authentic. The Northern Sausage did not come with the usual accompaniment of peanuts and it only came with three pieces of Ginger, whereas usually there is enough Ginger to cover almost every slice of sausage. The sauce for the Rad Na was very watery instead of being thick and lastly my wifes Northern Larb did not taste authentic and she was extremely dissapointed. The crowd was no more than usual so that cannot be an excuse for these problems.

Good authentic Thai food, but overall a bit salty and pricey.
