Before the James Beard Award and the Gourmet Magazine review, Lotus of Siam was a small little hole in the wall located in Commercial Center in Las Vegas. November 1999 was the month Chef Saipin and her husband Bill took over Lotus of Siam. Since then, Thai food became an adventure for those willing to step out of their comfort zones for Asian Cuisine. Chef Saipin’s distinct cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, from both her grandmothers and her husband’s grandmothers. Her northern style cooking has opened America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style of sweet and tang. The northern menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. Through her set menus, our guests can dine and enjoy recipes from over 100 years in the Chutima family.

Food was good, but overpriced for what you get....the waitress did not seem to space our courses correctly...she brought what I ordered as an entree 1st even though we had ordered two appetizer quite some time before that. The best things were the garlic shrimp and the crab fried rice, although the rice did not have much crab, and was a small portion. My wife had two coffees and they were $7 each....just americanos nothing fancy. I would go back just for the garlic shrimp.

The entrees looked like appetizers. And this food was not inexpensive. Pad see ew. We asked for shrimp. Had no idea but it was $42. Who charges $42 for a noodle dish? They forgot to put beef in our stir fry. They said it would be a few minutes. We asked every 10 minutes. It took 45 minutes to bring the correct dish. They took it off the bill but it was $36. This isn’t a casino. We live in Vegas and have eaten there over many years. Not sure how much longer they think they will stay in business serving small plates of typical Thai dishes for prices like these.

I recently dined at this restaurant, and overall, it was a mixed experience. Right off the bat, the location felt a bit sketchy, which didn’t set the best first impression. Starting with drinks, both the prosecco and draft beer were terribly flat, which was disappointing. When it comes to food, the soft-shell crab had great seasoning, but the crab itself tasted overly fishy. The crispy duck chu chee was a standout dish—flavorful, crispy, and well-executed. However, I was surprised that rice wasn’t included and had to be ordered separately for an additional $5, which felt like an unnecessary upcharge. The pad Thai, unfortunately, missed the mark entirely. Service was okay, but given the hit-or-miss quality of the food and the lackluster drinks, I wouldn’t rush back. There are definitely better options in town.

Our reservations were at 4 p.m. There were just two of us, but the staff seemed overwhelmed with all the people waiting on tables. It was Valentine’s Day so I guess a lot of other folks had the same idea to eat here. The garlic prawns did not disappoint and the Nam Khao Tod was delicious. The green curry with crispy duck was too sweet: the sugar overpowered the other flavors expected in a good Thai green curry. We were finished with our appetizers by the time we got our bottle of wine, which was a little annoying. Overall, the service was good and the food was good, but the curry disappointing.

We ate at Lotus of Siam and I have to say we will not return. I don’t know what happened, because we ate there two years ago and it was fantastic. We ate the at the Flamingo location on February 14, 2025 and was really bad at a high price. The portions were small and the food was cold and tasted not fresh. We ordered their signature dish the Garlic Shrimp and was cold, small and did not taste fresh. My wife ordered their Crab Fried Rice and we couldn’t find any Crab, only Egg and Rice. Unfortunately, it’s sad to see what was a good restaurant go this far down. Again we will not return. Maybe it was just a bad night?

I have had nothing but A+ experiences at the Lotus of Siam, but this time was such a disappointment. I had friends visiting from out of town and had bragged on and managed up the restaurant and was sorely disappointed. 1. The manager - I assume - was very rude. Our reservation was for 5:30pm and we arrived at 5:15pm. By 5:25pm we had 5 of our 7 people present and when I asked to be seated, the hostess asked him and he very rudely replied “you know you only get 2 hours to eat so they better hurry up”. 2. The quality of the food was “fair”. It was edible but temperature too cold, and overall taste just not as flavorful that normal. What I would expect from a fast food Thai restaurant but not a revered restaurant like the Lotus of Siam. And definitely not what I would expect for a $350 bill. 3. There was a child shrieking at an adjacent table throughout most of the meal. While I understand that a child’s behavior is out of the restaurants control, I do believe that one of the parents should have been asked to leave with the child until it had calmed down, thus allowing all other patrons to enjoy their meals. I know that an intoxicated adult would not be tolerated in the dining room (very rightfully) but a misbehaving child is just as disruptive. Overall, just a very disappointing experience at one of my favorite and most loved restaurants.
