If you're going to Mexcal prior to a show at Bergen PAC, I hope you 1. don't care about getting your drinks, and 2. don't care if you're late to the show. We had reservations before a show (that wasn't even close to sold out, so it wasn't like it was a ton of people), were sat right away, but then everything started going downhill from there. It took over 30 minutes to get our drinks. When we sat down and our drink orders were placed, it was only about half-full on our side of the restaurant. It filled up afterwards, but we had ordered our drinks before most of the people arrived. We did get our appetizer pretty quickly - it was the sampler (skip it) - and we ate all of it and were still sitting there before we saw our drinks. When the drinks did arrive, they were quite tasty and well made. The tacos had mixed reviews from the table, but I thought the pulpo and shrimp tacos were both flavorful. I am not normally bothered by noise level, but this place was really out of control. I couldn't hear the person next to me.
Overall, the food was okay - nothing amazing, but not terrible. The drinks were tasty, but that doesn't matter if you get them with half the meal already over. It looks nice inside, but the noise level kills the ambience. I would not recommend pre-show, and would be reluctant to go back at any time.
