   We had a cocktail here last year…on the main floor at the bar…and were very impressed by the ambiance and the look of the food that flew by us. We later booked this for my birthday dinner … for today….upon arrival we were, however, seated at the Campari Bar in the basement…at a very low table with blasting music and cocktails bar lighting….and cheek to jowl between two occupied tables. After being seated for 10 minutes…they asked if we were here for cocktails…I said for dinner…as the reservation said. 10 more minutes passed…and we decided to leave. We hadn’t even ordered a drink…not that any server had come by. We celebrated my birthday elsewhere. Should you decide to dine here…I suggest you dine upstairs upon upright furniture, ambient music and appropriate lighting. If you’re under 25, please check out the amazing cocktail bar and cool vibe. As for the food, I wouldn’t know…but the rest deserved a 1 star, only because there was no way to leave anything less.

   My son and I ordered filet Mignon. The first steam came out but the server told us that the kitchen accidentally cooked a sirloin for the second steak. He gave us the option to eat that or wait until a second was prepared. I opted to wait and my son ate while I waited. After waiting 15 min, the steak arrived. It was the sirloin. I was told it was a filet to make matters worse. It was undoubtedly a sirloin, 1 inch thick, had a vein running through it and thick gristle as well. It was disappointing to say the least. Worst part, in my opinion, was that sirloin is not even on the menu. Leads me to believe they wanted to serve that steak to my son, thinking he wouldn’t know the difference. Had I not taken the filet and handed it to my Son, I believe that is what would have happened. When the name of your restaurant is Mignon, you should at least serve it…. Not Sirloin.

   We had been in for a drink on Christmas Eve and loved the vibe, so decided to try for dinner. This is hands down my new favorite restaurant in Montreal. Great ambiance. Quiet, low key. Service was excellent. Food was amazing! The best steak frites I have had in a long time. The prix fixe meal is great value. Delicious soup and dessert. We sat at the bar which was great since we had a chance to chat with the bartender and other patrons. The perfect way to spend Christmas night. We will definitely return and will recommend.    We had a wonderful experience dining in a beautiful and warm dining room surrounded by windows. The service was excellent with the staff looking to make us comfortable and welcome. They were quick and precise with wine recommendations according to our entrees.

   We had a fun experience at Mignon, drinks were excellent, steaks were cooked perfectly along with our apps and desert was very good also. Ambiance was excellent and everyone very friendly with a younger set. Look forward to visiting again next time in Montreal.
