Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Stephane Voitzwinkler

From the OpenTable editors: This plush penthouse escape—open since 1965—reached new heights after a dramatic redesign. Thanks to a freshly added lounge, diners have better access to its skyline views. The French-American restaurant highlights local produce in throwback dishes like grilled blue prawns with charred shishitos and pan-roasted Alaskan halibut with corn.

Enjoyed Sunday brunch on a beautiful San Diego February day. Menu interesting and varied; we found the “breakfast croissant” and one of the eggs Benedict choices very tasty but not outstanding—not close to the level of our favorite Michelin-starred restaurants. Service friendly, courteous, knowledgeable. Allow time for a leisurely meal while enjoying the marvelous view (including incoming airliners on final approach nearly at table level!). We will keep Mr. A’s in the rotation for special occasions.

Mister As is a fantastic spot for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. The ambiance is wonderful, and the top view of the city is stunning, especially with planes flying in. It really makes you feel like you're being treated to something special. My husband and I had a great time here. We started with a few appetizers: the US wagyu tartare, tuna crudo, goat cheese stuffed figs, and Caesar salad. Everything was delicious and packed with flavor. However, during our main course, both of us started feeling a bit unwell. We're usually pretty adventurous eaters, so it was odd for us to experience any discomfort. We're not sure if it was the tartare or crudo, but unfortunately, we couldn't finish our ribeye steak because our stomachs weren't up to it. Hopefully, it was just a one-time issue. The prices are definitely on the higher side, making it more of a splurge than a regular outing. The wine selection is extensive, though it felt a bit limited in certain categories. The staff, however, was amazing—very helpful in recommending dishes and providing insight. It's also a bit noisy, but the atmosphere is still very enjoyable. Overall, it's a beautiful place to dine, and I’d definitely recommend it for special events, just be cautious with the raw dishes. We’d still return for sure!

Me and my boyfriend went here to celebrate our five year anniversary, and boy was it worth it! The view of the city was gorgeous, and the ambiance inside was classy and added to the experience. The food was delicious, but of course pretty pricey, so this is a good place to splurge for an occasion. The cocktails were also really good, and props to them for the water service. When ever our water glasses got to a quarter way full they filled them up right away. Definitely recommend this place! We’ll definitely come here again.

The only good things were the view and the drinks. There was nothing special about the food. They were quite expensive and not remarkable. I’m giving a one star review because of our experience with our server. Right from the beginning, we felt like she was judging us. Maybe she didn’t think we could afford dining there just because we didn’t quite fit in the demographic? Anyway, we started out with drinks and then when we were deciding on appetizers, she rudely told us that we would have to go to the bar if we didn’t order any main dishes. She said it was one of the rules in their restaurant. We were initially planning on ordering but the manner in which she told us that left a very bad taste in the mouth. We felt rushed AND forced to order food that, personally, didn’t really seem interesting to me. When we decided to order our main dishes, she rudely told us that we all have to place our orders at the same time. I have never ever encountered such a rule and I’ve dined at other high end restaurants before. It became a very disappointing experience for us and we all felt very humiliated that we just decided to leave. In the end, she even had the guts to say, “next time, this area is for dining only.” In addition to emphasizing that they have a strict dress code, they probably should include a disclaimer on their website that if you’re not willing to splurge on their main dishes, you can’t make a table reservation. We just packed up and took our money elsewhere. I felt so bad because my friends who were visiting from out of state were subjected to such humiliation. I do not recommend this place. There are much better restaurants in San Diego with good food and where people don’t look down on other people. TLDR: Nice view Drinks were good Mediocre yet expensive food Server can be rude and condescending depending on what you look like

The food was outstanding. Had the Chilean Sea Bass (excellent). Well seasoned, the crispy skin was great (and I don't like fish skin). The dessert which was the Baked Alaska, awesome. Definitely will go back and highly recommend!

As an aviation enthusiast, I can confidently say that Mister A’s offers one of the most spectacular dining experiences in San Diego. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the refined ambience and panoramic views of the city. But the real highlight? Watching planes take off and land at San Diego International Airport while enjoying an exceptional meal—an experience that was absolutely priceless. The food was just as incredible as the view. I ordered a steak, and it was nothing short of perfection—expertly cooked, bursting with flavor, and plated beautifully. Every bite showcased the high-quality ingredients and culinary mastery that make Mister A’s stand out. The service was impeccable. The staff was not only knowledgeable and professional but also warm and attentive, ensuring that every aspect of the evening was seamless. From thoughtful recommendations to perfectly timed courses, they truly elevated the experience. For anyone looking for a top-tier dining experience in San Diego, Mister A’s is a must-visit. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying an evening out, the combination of exquisite cuisine, first-class service, and unbeatable views of the city and airport traffic make this a dining experience like no other. I’ll definitely back!
