Moro restaurant in London’s Exmouth Market may retain its reputation as one of the hippest restaurants in one of the hippest parts of the capital, but this Clerkenwell restaurant still focuses more on good food than its own image. Moro’s décor with its polished wooden floors, long zinc bar, open view to the kitchen and its charcoal grill and wood-burning oven, is functional and welcoming. Cuisine of the southern Mediterranean, from the Iberian Peninsula into Northern Africa, is the menu’s exclusive province.

Had a pre-event Sunday lunch here. The food and wines were excellent, the service was impeccable and discreet, with no long delays, and the restaurant decor is pleasingly simple. The ambience was relaxed, like having a Sunday lunch with friends, the temperature was pleasingly cool, and, most welcome of all, there was no background music - hurrah!
