Phenomenal food and service. Beautifully appointed cozy dining area. This is a 5 star dining experience that you would expect to find only in California or New York. Simply delightful in the heart of Durham!

I moved to Durham a year ago and regret waiting until now to try Nana's. It wasn't just Durham good, but a flat-out great meal and experience. Gorgeous space and loved the vibe - not too dark, not too loud; not too casual, not too fancy. Professional table service that is rare these days (shoutout to Roderick!). A menu so full of intriguing dishes that it was difficult to choose. And every dish we ordered was beautiful and delicious. 10/10.

Food was excellent. We shared a roasted beet dish as a salad, split shrimp risotto for an appetizer, followed by main courses of chicken and salmon. Each was flavorful and the timing and delivery were perfect. We split a chocolate soufflé - completely unnecessary - but enjoyed it. The service was attentive and seamless. We dined early and lingered to finish our coffees.

Menu is in three parts: appetizers, pastas & mains. Some of the middle layer choices are sufficient for light eaters (and my tagliatelle with duck was one of them—strong recommend.) I tasted the roast chicken (exceptional with smoky flavor) and the shrimp risotto (another mid plate that was enough for a main.) The steak & pierogis were too precious (but delicious) but they were served without bread (which came much too late in the meal) and it was sad not to be able to sop up the sauce. The spicy ice cream was a treat (both the Mexican chocolate & the honey vanilla one.) The pear cocktail was okay, a tad too sweet for me. My grandson ate every bit of the steak but he is a big 14 year old. Husband had grits, good but grits? I would say the same thing about the roast chicken but, as I said, it was not something one could easily replicate at home.

We were at Nana’s for a special wine dinner. It was fantastic. The food pairings with the wines (all Chablis) were excellent - very creative use of ingredients and everything worked harmoniously.
