Nanas is a neighborhood restaurant in Durham, North Carolina. Helmed by Chefs Matt Kelly and Nate Garyantes, Nanas pays tribute to Nana’s, our beloved predecessor, while reimagining all of the details. Abundant, local ingredients shine on our seasonal menus, which feature dishes like Twice-Baked Grits Soufflé, Duck Ragout Tagliatelle, and the iconic Nana’s risotto alongside seasonal wood grilled whole fish, crispy lamb shoulder, and fresh-baked breads and desserts made daily in house. In our cozy bar you'll find finely executed classic cocktails and local beers, while the wine program offers upwards of 250+ labels of impeccably curated, farming-first wines. If your desired time for a reservation is not available our bar seats are open on a first come first serve basis. Call your nana, it's time to eat.

    This was my first time dining at Nanas and it won’t be the last. I’m not someone who usually pays extra for bread, but it was worth it to have their dinner rolls. They were perfect in every way and came straight from the oven. Their Pierrogis were also amazing. The cocktails were also delicious.

    Meal was ok and service excellent, but between the watered down cocktail, chopped shrimp for with the risotto and thinly slicing the one sea scallop in the scallop dish was disappointed. Seemed too pretentious for fine dinning at a neighborhood restaurant…. Missing the old nannas ! Need to also lighten up…

    We loved everything about our experience. Food and service were excellent. If there was a single drawback, it was the draft that wafted over our shoulders in the bar area every time the front door opened. Server, Clover, was the icing on the cake. She was the best, most knowledgeable, and entertaining waitperson I've ever had anywhere.

    The quality of the food and wines by the glass was outstanding as always though the prices and portion sizes (including pours) seemed a little disproportionate. We also enjoyed a lovely conversation with the table for two next to us and discovered a surprising number of connections. Nana's is justifiably highly rated for the amazing quality of the interesting menu choices. Our major nit to pick is the abysmal lack of parking. The prices are reasonable for a Michelin star-rated restaurant, and we think Nana's is worth considering for a star, but the prices are a bit steep without the star and without reasonable parking. Still, Nana's is a wonderful choice for a special occasion when you are willing to spend a little extra for an outstanding culinary experience.

    From the first to the last dish the operative word was oily. The scallops, ravioli, gnocchi and the special fish of the night-snapper, all were over the top soaked in oil or butter. Along with over-salting, all dishes failed to deliver. Sad since we hoping so much more from Nanas.

    We had a great dining experience at Nana’s! All of the food was high quality and we truly enjoyed our meal. I would recommend sitting in the bar area at a high top. Great ambience and not too loud.
