We had often eaten downstairs at the Opera House and enjoyed it, but the North Box upstairs is such a nice intimate experience and the service was great. The menu is the same as downstairs and it is good and well presented.

Beautiful location obviously! Great set up for tables and not much of a wait time for food. Not sure if I can call it good food though…, the meals were only a few choices, extremely expensive for the portions and taste and also no espresso in desert menu just some watery brown water. Taste was very average. I would not go there again.

A pleasant dining experience and so convenient for Opera productions. It appears to be a little pricey but this is San Francisco! We would recommend!!

This is a convenient place to eat before the opera if you are pressed for time or can't find reservations somewhere else within walking distance. That is the only reason I have dined at this place more than once. The service is efficient and professional. The food leaves much to be desired. The kitchen is on the lower level ( basement ) of the SF Opera building and is carried three floors via stairs on trays, so by the time it gets to your table, you can be sure the food is cold. So order anything already cold; stick to basic things, and you will be less disappointed. The food has been low quality for years, and I don't see it changing. The view and the setting looking over the balcony into the lobby is beautiful. When you make your reservations, request a table not adjacent to the staircase so you can at least enjoy the ambiance. The convenience, service & ambiance make up for the terrible food.

Going to the North Box before the opera is such a great way to start the evening. The staff are wonderful and the food is excellent. And it is so much fun to order a drink for intermission ahead of time and have it waiting, freshly poured, when you come back to the table.

My friend and I dine here because it's convenient and we love the waitstaff. However, the food has always been mediocre, expensive, and the menu hasn't changed in at least 5 years. The night we attended, there was an event at Prelude, the downstairs restaurant, and our meals were served in paper bowls with plastic lids! Our server explained that it was due to the special event. For a $36 quinoa bowl, I expected something better than airport take-out. The only good thing was that because of the special event, they did change the menu.

Absolutely the worst dining experience for the price point ever ! The menu was limited to “bowls” and a few other measly dishes. I had the bowl with the prawns which was atrocious. Served in cheap plastic and the prawns had a fishy smell. They didn’t taste normal so I decided not to finish eating them for fear of getting sick. My partner had the bowl with chicken which was also subpar. This was followed by a pathetic cheese plate and later chocolate covered strawberries. Mind you that we ordered the chocolate torte but they ran out and our server (bless her heart) substituted the strawberries (for $16.00/4 strawberries!). Fortunately we brought our own wine and paid a $40.00 corkage fee per bottle. The wine list is limited and doesn’t really have any thing decent. Although our service was great the poor quality of the food ruined the evening. Never again, will definitely eat either before or after the performance at another restaurant NOT within the Opera House.

Lovely spot for a pre-performance drink and food - however - way way overpriced. Excellent service though.

Service was great. Food was delicious! The only thing was bad was coffee. It was sour and yucky. Thankfully, the charges were removed, but a place like this should really step up with their after dinner offerings. Latte machine is a must! But at least a decent coffee 🙏
