What Old Compton Brasserie does, it does brilliantly: familiar but innovative food with some clever flairs of presentation, at very affordable prices, served efficiently by friendly staff. The Mon-Fri lunch offer of a choice of six easy dishes with a drink (alcoholic or non) for £15 is exceptional value - my Club Sandwich was world class!

Terribly slow service. Didn’t bring us water. Took other tables’ orders before ours. Loud ambience too, with glasses breaking every 10 minutes down on the first floor.

Unfortunately not the best experience. We arrived on time but had to wait 10 mins, greeted coldly by the doorman. We had booked the set menu but given main menus so had to ask and wait 10 minutes for that. Then we ordered our starters/main/desserts in one go. After the main course, we were told that management had asked us to leave as they needed our table for a band which was false as there were people that were continuing to be sat near us. I explained I understood it was NYE, but we had pre-booked and that we were yet to receive our dessert we ordered at the start of the meal. The waiter explained the best they could do was 25%. (Which covered two drinks). I asked again as the desserts we had not received were still on the bill. He said the best he could do was remove a further £6 - only enough to cover one dessert… a shame as I’ve been here before and enjoyed it. Apart from this the service of our waiters (not management) were good. Cocktails and food were okay.

Lucas is hands down one of the most charismatic and magnetic waiters I’ve ever met. My friend and I come to Comptons regularly, and we always hope to be seated in his section. When we’re not, we’ll even ask to be moved to the outdoor seating just to say hello. Your restaurant is lucky to have him, and if I ever opened a place (which I won’t), he’d be the first person I’d hire. We absolutely love him.

We had a good time, service was friendly and prompt, good value for money. The only annoying thing was our steak knives were blunt. I am not one to complain but it made cutting the steak quite hard and therefore was a bit annoying. Otherwise all good.

As usual the team members were friendly, but busy busy. The service seemed a little slower than usual, not sure whether it was because we’d opted for the set menu, and open menu diners were being prioritised??? We had to ask for our glass of Prosecco (included in the £29 deal) when we were approached for a drinks. We were asked to order all three courses at the start of the meal which I thought was unusual, maybe again because we were ordering the set menu, somehow didn’t feel right. Generally the food was a great standard. One of our party being a vegan diner commented on how refreshing the menu was, even the choices available on the set menu, then after the meal how nice the food was. One diner of the party ordered the sirloin steak main course, the meat was not particularly tender and was found to be more gristly than would usually be expected, and in fairness to the restaurant, the £6 supplement for this option was deducted. Would definitely visit again, but with different choices.

Lovely lively atmosphere and great service from the Albanian waitress (sorry didn’t catch her name). Great venue for the theatre.
