Growing up in Italy, my family cooked at home and had the most extraordinary experiences with ingredients grown in our backyard, paired with the wines my chef/restaurateur stepfather would bring back from regions throughout Italy. I fell in love with food as a child watching my stepfather, once nominated a top chef in Italy, work in restaurant kitchens and floors. Moving to California in 1991 and subsequently to Santa Monica and experiencing the Farmers Market inspired me to start Orto - Italian for “vegetable garden” - where I meld local ingredients and organic herbs grown here at the restaurant to create traditional Italian recipes. At our bar you’ll find a cocktail list created from fresh herbs and premium spirits, and our wine list focuses on sustainable and organic producers. Andrea Inio

We met an old friend for a holiday dinner and had a nice Mista salad followed by delicious Bolognese pasta. Loud due to a large office holiday party taking up most of the restaurant but not usually like that. We go back quite often.

We had a very fun and delicious dinner at Orto and will definitely be back. We had a large party (over 10) they were able to accomodate with ease while also taking care of another large party (20+) seated at the same time. Everyone enjoyed their meal and their wine list is excellent. Thanks to all at Orto for a lovely experience.

Staff is friendly but overwhelmed. Our table was smacked against the wall in the hallway; clearly not where a table should be. Food was very poor tasting. Mushroom ravioli tasted like store bought, spaghetti was old, the green and tomatoes for the appetizers were old wilted. Tables are so close to each other I could hear everyone’s conversation. Overall best to spend your money elsewhere.

Amazing and delicious! Seriously one of the most amazing meals we have ever had! We had the cheese wheel pasta, highly recommend. Everything was perfectly seasoned.

As always, a wonderful experience in every way. We dine at Orto at least once every time we are in the Los Angeles area. It is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere in the world. Andrea and his team take great pains to deliver great ambience, wonderful food, and great service.

First time here but won’t be the last. Cozy intimate atmosphere. The service was very good and the food was awesome and reasonably priced. Can’t wait to go back and try something else on their menu!

The food and service was excellent! The portions were perfect to share, or enough for one hungry. The lychee blossom drink was so good! No valet, but ample street parking or a garage past SMB and 5th. My daughter left her purse, they safeguarded it until we drove back.
