Another visit to Otto’s and another amazing evening. This is fine dining done in a grand style with a lot of “yesteryear” service. The experience started as Otto welcomed us and poured us each a glass of Champagne. We’d ordered the Pressed Lobster ahead so no need to look at menus. The Lobsters were then presented at the table before being dispatched and the culinary delights starting. First course was a lobster consommé with a puff pastry lid. The tableside stove was alight with flames as plump scallops and langoustine tails were lightly sauteed before a small hole was made in the lid of the pastry and one scallop and tail dropped into the hot consommé for a final light poaching. Absolutely delicious. Next course were the legs and claws of the lobster. Beautifully cooked to perfection, the shells were sautéed off with stock vegetables and lots of congnac before being pressed tableside in a delightful contraption involving a large wheel and screw thread. This ancient device ensured all the wonderful juices came forth and added to the sauce. Again flames reached to the ceiling as the sauce was made tableside - a delicious morel sauce enriched with butter and cream. The lobster was served with a potato rosti on the side and perfectly cooked bantam egg atop. Tte sauce was napped around the plate and then the final decadent flourish was a small tin of caviar atop the bantams egg. Utterly delicious. The final course was the lobster tail meat - again delightfully cooked to perfection and served with another exquisite sauce - this time more delicate with Pastis flavours and more of the shell stock. More flames as well!! Accompanying the tails were beautifully cooked fresh foisgras and sweetbreads. It’s not a meal for the faint hearted but it ranks in my top 5 best ever! Service is impeccable and attentive without being overbearing. Lovely staff who’ve all been there for a number of years. Otto clearly runs a tight ship. Wine list is extensive. Totally amazing!

Our evening at Otto’s was the dining highlight of our week in London. The menu, service and intimate ambiance will stay with us for a long time. The staff was welcoming and attentive. We closed the restaurant. Not wanting the evening to end. The Saint Jacque scallops and foie gras were so full of flavor. The Steak Tartare and foie gras was prepared perfectly. The sauce was a perfect complement. My Tournedos Rossini were lovely and beautifully presented and delectable. Extensive wine list and yummy desserts.

Once again Otto's provided the most exemplary gourmet experience. I have lunched and dined here many times and taken a wide range of guests, all of whom have been equally impressed and made return visits. Otto's remains to me the best of London's restaurants, offering a unique atmosphere, an always unhurried welcome and food and wine that stays in my memory as being so very special. There are many great restaurants in London but only one Otto's.
