Oyamel offers a vibrant Mexican dining experience with "fantastic food" and a lively atmosphere. The "guacamole is incredible" and the Oyamel Margarita is a must-try. While the service can be hit or miss, attentive staff often elevate the experience. The noise level is high, but the authentic flavors keep patrons returning.

I love this restaurant for the great food, great service staff, ambience and all. It's my favorite of all the Jose Andres restaurants. But I do wish that the noise level would be a bit lower. It's really impossible to carry on a conversation. I wonder if covering the ceiling and walls with marigold flowers might help.

We had a wonderful dinner at Oyamel after visiting the Holiday Market at Gallery Place. The food continues to be delicious. Our favorites were the cheese enchiladas with mole sauce, the sweet potato and black bean tamale, the shrimp ceviche and the mushroom tacos. The portions were just right and the prices were reasonable. We changed our party size from 4 to 5 and back to 4 again. The staff was very accommodating as we had to make changes. It was a great evening with friends

Oyamel was delicious! Table was not ready immediately at reservation time on a Saturday night, so we ordered a drink at the bar and were seated soon afterwards. Service was fast and excellent.

The food was delicious and the waiter very knowledgeable. My only disappointment was something that could not be controlled, and that was the availability of Mexican hot chocolate. I really wanted to try some, but I have learned that sometimes the ingredients aren’t in stock/available…just means I’ll have to come back!

Wonderful and delicious food — one of our favorite places to eat in DC. The servers are kind and never leave you hanging. However, the noise level is uncomfortably loud and the booths are not very comfortable. But the menu is always worth it!

Eating at Oyamel was an interesting experience. The food was very good. The service was fine, but we had to wait long to be able to place our order. The difficulty for me was my feeling that the restaurant was trying to put as many people as possible in the room. We were sitting at one of the high tables between two other couples and there was barely room to put our plates and glasses, etc on the table. I think if they would sit six persons instead of eight at the high tables, it would be much more comfortable. It was Friday evening and the restaurant was very busy (a very good sign), so it was loud and difficult to talk, even to discuss about the menu. I heard my neighbours more than my son sitting in front of me. I liked that the restaurant gives you cloth napkins instead of paper. I would go again, but during the week, to enjoy some other of their proposed dishes, that seemed very good.

Small plates but nicely done. It was not hard to get full off of 4 dishes. We had six. The cauliflower dish was a little bland but we liked the shrimp ceviche, cheese enchiladas in mole sauce, tamal verde, pork belly tacos. The sweet potato dish was more like a dessert which was fine for me. Despite having to ask for serving spoons a couple of times, service was great and the food came promptly. The friend I went with and I agreed we’d go back.
