A lively Latin-inspired eatery in Homer Glen, Rubi Agave brings fusion food to the masses in a bright and exciting restaurant. Energetic dancers and live music perfectly complement the lively, flavorful food. The costilla taino, a slow-cooked beef short rib dish loaded with veggies and Puerto Rican herbs and spices, is a crowd pleaser, as is the El Paraiso burger, topped with melted Chihuahua cheese, grilled jalapenos, onions and guacamole on a pretzel roll, served with sweet potato fries. Rubi Agave also has plenty of gluten-free options, such as the pork tamale duo with homemade salsa, and the mini jibaritos, a dish of fried plantains covered in steak, beans, crisp veggies, cheese and sour cream. And check out the candy nachos for dessert. With unique and fresh Latin dishes and a colorful atmosphere, Rubi Agave is a full sensory experience not to be missed.

We found the pricing was very high and not for all budgets. The cake that is served Margarita cake that they have is by far over and above anything that any of our party has ever tasted. If we would go back, it would only be for a drink and the cake.

We dined mid-afternoon. The food and drinks were excellent. The noise level was a bit too much as they were playing music videos in the televisions at a high volume. They also placed the few groups who were there immediately next to each other which did not help conversation.

RA is probably our very most favorite restaurant/bar in the culinary desert that is the Joliet area...though it is not really Joliet, technically Homer Glen. The food is amazing and unique, quite a surprise considering its location, sort of out in the middle of nowhere on a stretch of IL7 that seems to be eternal under construction located in a building that looks like it was originally designed to be a tractor sales/repair warehouse! The Jibaritos top the list of best that we have ever had anywhere (not that you can get them in many places in Chicago) and the El Barquito de Guineo is amazing, unique, delicious! If you want "mundane", they have about the best coconut shrimp that we have had anywhere. The side sauces provided with every dish are unique and worth taking home! If you like pulpa (octopus) try ANY of their dishes that include the ingredient. Even if you don't like octopus, try one of the dishes and you will! The bar menu is also unique and amazing. The Puna is fantastic but the king is their Caipirinha. It is so tasty and refreshing that Cachaça is now as much a standard in our liquor cabinet as is Casa Nobles tequila and any/every good vodka! The music and the ambience is a fun mix of thumping Latin beat and old-school rap/hip-hop (i.e., MY era! :). I dare you to go there and not feel the need to at least move a bit to the beat or to take your eyes off the beautiful people on the video screens. Last but not least is their staff. They are very nice and very attentive. In particular, the young, bearded fellow with the voice that eternally sounds like he was screaming for hours at a concert the night before is one of our favorite servers in the entire Chicagoland area. He is also the guy who ALWAYS makes the Caipririnhas the right way! (Sometimes they run out of Cachaça and other bartenders try to substitute in another liquor...and it fails every time...and we catch them!). Go to RA, often, the experience is unique, fulfilling & culturally refreshing!

Menu was good with a small selection of entrees that looked very well thought out. Though the menu looked promising, the food was mediocre and lacked flavor. Despite there only being about 6 others tables occupied, the service was below standards. Food took a very long time and could t seem to get the attention of our server despite it not being too crowded. Had to grab another server just to get our check.

Went to this restaurant on Mothers Day. i am Puertorrican and was looking forward to some good puertorrican food. I ordered the puertorican lasagna and it was awful. Puertorican food is not spicy any chef would know that . This dish was too spicy for me, my son and my husband( who loves spicy food) would not eat it. Their food is expensive Mexican food. my daughter ordered tacos and was charged extra for lettuce and tomatoes in the tacos. My husband ordered the quesadillas and they were greasy and soggy. They charge for everything including extra chips for the guacamole. Their drinks are expensive also. Because we had six people in our party they automatically included a 22% tip. I was very disappointed and will not return.

The guacamole was terrible. We were overcharged for chips that we didn’t get. And we were charged for using credit cards. Had to ask multiple times for water. Multiple times asking for straws. It was not a good experience.
