Chef and owners Aniello Bortone and Reth have worked in unison for the past 10 years across a number of Sydney’s most popular restaurants.

Hailing from the humble town of Aversa next to Napoli, Nello grew up watching his family make traditional Neapolitan dishes, this is where his love of food began.

Working alongside Reth, also a chef and the front face of Semola, his enthusiasm for impeccable customer service and quality ingredients shines through. The dynamic duo are an authentic representation of what it means to eat and breathe true Italian food.

    Having never dined in Marrickvle and needing to attend a show nearby we were treated to excellent service really good authentic Italian cuisine and offered a choice of table for our needs. Highly recommend this venue.

    We celebrated a birthday dinner on a Tuesday and were seated and settled quickly with an order of arancini balls, olives and focaccia with some drinks which all came super quickly allowing us time to order mains. The arancini was delicious with 6 pieces topped with amazing cheese and delicious sauce and house bread and oil combo was on point with soft centre and crunchy crust. We had the wagu pasta, gnocchi, special of the day prawns and a kids pasta. Good sized servings some of which had to come home. We paired this with an Italian full bodied red that was decanted and after breathing opened up nicely (Primativo di Mamduria). Being summer the wine was a little warm on opening but given a moment was perfect. The service was attentive without being overbearing and a candle was added to desert for the birthday girl without prompting. Thank you for a lovely experience.

    I was excited to try this place, being from Marrickville. However, I was disappointed because I had higher expectations. The food is okay; however, in combination with the price, it falls into a category that doesn’t fit its quality. For example, their $33 pasta meal, in my opinion, would be better priced at $25. The real issue with the entire experience was the reservation process. After booking a 6:45 pm slot, which was adjusted to 7:00 pm due to a delay in my arrival, we were welcomed but instructed to wait outside for 20 minutes while our table was prepared. However, our 6:45 pm table should have been available for 90 minutes, meaning it should have been free. Following this, there was no attempt by the staff to remedy the situation with anything but words. Words are cheap—unlike actions. If you’re truly apologetic, have the entrées or dessert on the house. I understand this does incur a cost, but so does my time, which was wasted waiting.

    Food was excellent. Some of the wait staff were inexperienced - basically filled one wine glass with the last 1/4 from the bottle ensuring we had to purchase another bottle for the remaining guests.

    The pasta in both dishes we had was the best we have ever had in Australia. The Tiramasu was also delicious. We sat in out outdoor area on a night the trains weren't running so there was a lot of buses going by. On a normal night you wouldn't notice this as much, but that didn't spoil our night because the food is so good. I'll definately be back.

    My friend and I came for the Pasta Class last Saturday and we absolutely loved it! The team and Head Chef were phenomenal! The staff were attentive, kind and helpful, and the Head Chef was engaging, energetic and insightful, taking us through his extensive knowledge of pasta making. Cannot recommend this enough to friends and family, perfect for a girls day out, date idea, or time with family. Would happy return - 10/10!
