Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Parties of over six guests are required to order from our sharing menu on Fridays on Saturdays. For bookings in December we require an order from one of our festive sharing menus. The starter was fine and noodles etc but the main course Kung Pao should have been spicy but wasn’t and it is a shame as I love spicy food so this was bland.

Great location and the food is really good. Staff did make u feel very rushed as though they want to get you out as quick as possible. Wine menu could be better. The food is exceptional though🙌
