Charming

Three generations of the Frank family found new inspiration in England’s growing gastropub movement.
In 2009, they refurbished, restyled and re-opened the traditional British pub at Five Crowns as Corona del Mar’s first and only English-style gastropub, SideDoor.

SideDoor is a separate operation within Five Crowns. Enter on Poppy Street under the big red key and find a comfortable and convivial atmosphere. Cozy up to one of the charming fireplaces. The focus at SideDoor is on seasonal small plates portioned for sharing, cheese and charcuterie prepared by a chef on duty at the new charcuterie station and a selection of world-class spirits. A wide range of wines and craft beers in a variety of sizes and pours are constantly updated with new offerings for the curious to explore. With its warm, relaxed atmosphere, SideDoor, the casual neighborhood gastropub, will have its guests returning again and again.

The service was really bad. The waiter did not bring our drinks for about 15 minutes. They brought this dinner salad before water or any drinks we had to ask for our drinks. Throughout the meal, they were trying to rush us out. They brought the meal out within, a short amount of time as if it was already prepared. We ordered dessert and the waiter tried to talk us out of it several times reiterating that it was going to take 30 minutes. My wife’s meal came with a glass of champagne. They never brought it. We had to ask for it and then he acted , like he was put out by our request people stood around our table because there was not enough room for people waiting to get into the restaurant by in large. It was a poor experience.

We had a wonderful dinner celebrating our anniversary. Tyler was a fantastic waiter and made sure to make our night feel special. All of the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and the ambiance is top notch. We especially enjoyed their cocktails.

We love SideDoor! Will was our server and was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I had the pot pie and it was delicious with a crisp puff pastry top. My friend had the French Onion soup and wedge salad--both were delicious. My husband had the French dip and it was perfectly cooked and deelish!

Love this little gem of the community. Part of the 5 Crowns Restaurant owned by Lawrey’s LA serves incredible food from next door as well as some pared down items such as prime ribs sandwiches and burgers or fish & chips. Dinning experience is like being transported to a pub in English countryside.

Always a good time at the Sidedoor. It’s cozier, a little more casual and has its own menu than the 5 Crowns dining area which is the reason why my family loves it. Our server was great. Food was fantastic.

One of the few truly great bars in Newport / CDM. Michael and Andrew at the bar make awesome drinks. Entire staff is fantastic.
