   The restaurant is quite small and feels cramped. It can get very noisy, making it difficult to hold a conversation. The menu is rather limited, offering only a few options, and the wine list is extremely restricted, which was disappointing. Overall, it wasn’t the dining experience I was hoping for.

   The food is sensational. The service is excellent. Sergio is the captain. He has the floor running like a fine racing yacht. Being a chef working in NYC for 30 years the details are clear. The evening is a smooth seamless experience. Pablo Bonilla, Chef and founder, has set crazy high stands for the restaurant experience that include: Blending indigenous ingredients and preps with innovative approaches based in classical technique creating connections with culture and traditions. The crew at Sikwa makes the crazy high standards come true! Its one thing to talk the talk, Bonilla and the crew at Sikwa walk the walk. The bottom line is: The food, service, beverage and ambiance are world class. GO NOW! We had 4 or 5 of the items on the menu that the kitchen organized in to a course by course tasting menu. Sergio paired wines that were spot on. We had 2 different cocktails both excellent. And were gifted a few beautiful chocolates for an exceptional finish. I will not endeavor to play the food critic and do a plate by plate description. I believe that everything at Sikwa is exceptional. What a wonderful and surprising evening. Thank You Sikwa.

   Food was under seasoned, singular sweet notes throughout, tenderloin overcooked, soup lacked flavor and was like consomme and was under seasoned and not much flavor, flan was overwhelmingly sweet and didn’t need the cheese. Only good thing was the pate and chicken mouse starter. Service was mediocre with our main course brought to the table when one of us had not finished the soup and the main course was lukewarm. Very disappointed .

   I don’t know if it was because it was a fixed menu, but the food was not good at all. For a tiny appetizer, a soup that was just salted water, a main plate that had two tiny sides one which tasted like a potato salad right from Costco I was extremely displeased and disappointed that for two people I paid 300 US dollars in Costa Rica for borderline grocery store bought food. Drinks and dessert were the only things that were ok. Do not recommend.

   Silla quebrada, no hay para colgar bolsos y ponerlos en el piso en la canasta es súper incómodo. El local olía a grasa y salimos con la ropa impregnada al olor de grasa. Bebidas muy pequeñas para el precio que cobran, la porción de panzada del gazpacho realmente diminuta para el precio del plato. El lugar no invita a quedarse, la música muy alta al punto que no se le escuchaba nada al mesero. Decoración “Cheap” para la “experiencia” que creen “vender”.

   We went Christmas Eve, so there was a set menu. The apps were good, it was chicken pate and a curry chicken dip with sourdough bread. These were delicious, and the squash soup was really good with a chili oil on top. The mains though, were overcooked and dry - there was a beef tenderloin and a pork entree. I thought the pork was better but the sauces on either plate couldn't cover the dryness of the meat.

   Was only offered a set meal with no warning – we probably wouldn't have booked had we known this was the case. Food was very underwhelming and extremely bad value given the poor quality of the meal (in particular the main dish).

   Just a fantastic experience end-to-end. Like to think I’ve been to many nice restaurants and I’d put Sikwa up there with any of them. Outstanding food, great drinks, and most importantly, world class service. Our waiter made our night with perfect recommendations, and on-the-house tastings - such genuine excitement about the food and Costa Rican heritage. A perfect first meal in Costa Rica that will be impossible to top!
