Soothr, properly pronounced “Sood” is the Thai word meaning “Recipe”. This East Village establishment is the vision of close friends who grew up in different regions of Thailand, hoping to share their experiences and recipes with the rest of the world. Raised in distinctive regional cities, each individual brings their own unique relationship with Thai cuisine, with a specific focus on the generational family recipes that have shaped their childhood and time growing up in Thailand. With a specialty in family noodle recipes from throughout Thailand, Soothr offers a culinary experience that is geared towards the comfort and warmth of dining at home. These traditional recipes have brought great comfort and a sense of home for generations, and Soothr at its core is an invitation to sit at the table and enjoy a classic, Thai family meal.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Noodles are the star at this Thai East Village gem that got raves from Eater and the New York Times after it opened in 2020. You'll find them in a host of regional dishes like the spicy ba mii pu (dry crab noodles) and chicken khao soi. Pair them with equally exciting cocktails like the tequila and tamarind syrup-based Pay-Thai in a neon-lit space that'll make you feel you're at one of Bangkok's famed street-food markets.

Waited outside in the cold for over a half hour past my reservation for a birthday dinner. Besides that, atmosphere great and food was fantastic

This cozy spot on the lower east side is very trendy with its gem named cocktails and seasonal menus. It is clearly incredibly popular as tables turn over quickly and there is never an empty seat. The food comes quickly and is deeply flavorful. The menu consists of dishes that can be harder to find, even in a cultural hub like NYC. I do wonder if lunch service is a little less bustling as at times I found it difficult to hear my dinner partner. I also wish they would tell you about the QR code for the food menu as it is on a physical drinks menu and that’s a bit confusing. Overall I’m glad I made it to Soothr and look forward to trying their sister restaurant Sappe soon.

Food was amazing. Service could have been better. Server didn’t touch table and service had to be flagged down after multiple attempts. Everyone seemed to have blinders on. Overall delicious meal but service could improve to be in alignment with the reputation of food.

Great atmosphere, service, and of course, food! We had the Tom Yum seafood hotpot and the Karee Pu Noodles (curry crab noodles) and both were delicious. Can be hard getting a reservation (though luckily a 12:30 PM one opened up for us) so definitely reserve a spot in advance!

not worth the price unless you enjoy sitting in the lap of the patron next to you, overly sweet cocktails, and uninterested staff.
