   Wonderful - was in London on business and StJohn was on my bucket list. As I was staying closer to Marylebone I booked “dinner for one”. The whole “for one” is in my experience not a good thing in London/UK. Not sure why as it is a fairly normal situation. The booking at StJohn came back as “at the counter” which I was open minded about. It was an utter pleasure. Lovely welcome. Great pace of service. Very personal and friendly. The menu may be intimidating in the small plates/big plates thing but relax, be guided and go for it. I don’t think you can go wrong as the menu and food is so good. What did I have : manzanilla&olives/ crab on toast / pigs tongues and celeriac / Brill and capers sea purslane. House wines by the glass are good. The blackboard specials - a lovely Sancerre. Don’t leave without madeleines, in fact stay and have them with calvados. Lovely evening. Thank you

   Cozy and casual atmosphere but very serious about food and wine. A sharing menu with small, medium and large plates all excellently prepared and bursting with flavor, frequently with sour and fermented accents: pickled sardines, eel with pickled prunes, cold venison and parsley salad, pork with braised cabbage and mustard. Playful with English traditions. Highly recommended.

   Terrible. Just terrible. Where to start... Bad food. Bad service. High prices. This is not the place for you unless you like 1/2 a pound of mustard with your food. Every single dish was bad - that can't be a coincidence. Only 3 mains on the menu yet after we ordered the Skate we were informed they were out of it. The apple crumple was undercooked. The Madelines were over baked. The cocktails were sloppy. The servers were nice but didn't know what they were doing. Avoid.

    We had a phenomenal meal at St. John’s. Everything was perfectly paced and so delicious. Dominic was our waiter, and we couldn’t ask for a better host through our meal. Would absolutely recommend, and also come back every time we’re in London. You must get the Madeline’s to go. We finished them before we even got to the tube. Kindest, Maddie & Win
