State of Grace is a coastal, South Texas neighborhood restaurant in the refurbished Lamar-River Oaks Shopping Center. Elegant but casual, its elevated comfort food by executive chef Bobby Matos is executed at the highest level in a welcoming, beautiful space. The jubilant medley of old favorites played with new spice, accent, and freshness lends itself to southern, American, Latin, Gulf Coast, German and Asian influences. Chef-owner Ford Fry’s first venture outside of Atlanta, State of Grace is located in the neighborhood where Ford grew up and nods to his childhood memories fused with Houston’s evolution into a melting pot of cultures and cuisines.

                                                                                Our first time coming here and unfortunately it was not the best experience. The good: The ambience is great and the restaurant is beautiful. The staff is friendly. The bad: Our Valentines Day reservation was for 9:30. We were there at 9:15. We did not get seated until 10:30! There was nowhere to sit while we waited. The food was okay but definitely need to work on presentation. The drinks were okay as well. The crackers that came with my crab were stale. We ended up leaving at 12:45 am, which we definitely did not expect.
