   We dined here for the Christmas brunch experience and though there were high points, my party and I were not that impressed. The pastry options for the first course were a platter of cut bagels and mini muffins, some better than others. The second course of a Caesar salad and frittata with bell pepper, spinach, and mushrooms was probably the best part of the meal. Flavors were good and though we had to wait a little longer for the frittata, it was worth it once it came to the table. The entrees consisted of a prime rib and a seafood lasagna. The prime rib came slightly warmer than room temperature yet the potatoes that accompanied it were hot as if brand new. The seafood lasagna was just cold and no one in my party felt comfortable eating more than a few bites. The dessert option was decent, so the meal ended on a decent point. The server was nice, and the drinks were very good!

   The pre-fixe menu for Christmas brunch was terrible. The pastries came out cold and some were stale. The “prime rib” was super thin, came out cold and super well done. Most of the dishes seemed like it was heated from the microwave. The best dish they had on this menu was the Caesar salad

   We have been to Stella’s before for their holiday offerings and have not been disappointed. We decided to try their Christmas Eve dinner and we were served 4 courses of very delicious food. The prime rib dinner was particularly outstanding. What was different this time around was the service, however. They seemed to be short staffed and it took some time after we sat time for us to be acknowledged. After we received our food, no one bothered checking in with us to see whether it was to our liking. We ordered wine and it finally arrived after our dessert! My wife and I have eaten at Stella’s many times. We have always enjoyed the food and the service as being outstanding! I will just chalk this up to being a one off.

   I expected Stella to look and feel more intimate. At this price level and quality of service it deserved a table cloth and better decor. Because, the food we ate ( off the menu) was outstanding, like no other Italian food I’ve eaten in the US. And we’re 81 and have been around.

   I made an online reservation for the Fireside Room at Stella at the Sorrento. When I arrived, I was informed that there was a special High Tea event on Eventbrite and that lovely holiday decorated room was not available. They seated us in the bar area which was definitely NOT what we had envisioned as our special Christmas get-together between friends. In addition, it was raining buckets so I had called the hotel to find out how much the Valet parking was and was told it was $40, prohibitive. I decided to drive by the hotel before picking up my friend and saw a posted sign that the Valet was $20 for two hours, so decided to use that service given the weather. In the end, with a validation, the Valet service cost ONLY $8, and we gave the attendant $5. It is frustrating to be given incorrect information that just complicates the day. The food was quite good (artichoke/spinach dip with lots of toasted pita, and the meatballs) but I don’t think I would go there again. It was just sort of “off”, if that makes sense.

   Wonderful catch up lunch with a friend at Stella. The ambiance was fantastic, as was the service. And the food was excellent…crisp lettuce in our salads, excellent fruit, and the chicken was grilled to perfection. We were very happy.

    Excellent entrees: papardelle Bolognese. The martinis were good, too. The halibut was wonderful.
