Overall the experience for brunch was good but really need to do away with those frozen potatoes out of a package. They didn’t come close to being home fried potatoes.

Dinner was fabulous! As a table we ordered the she crabby soup and that was delicious. At the table we also had crab cakes, blackened rockfish, and the meatloaf and we didn't leave a drop on our plates!

The staff was slammed but you’d never know it. The handled everything with aplomb and delivered our drinks and good with a smile. Our celebration was so memorable. Tarrants did a great job.!

I have been wanting to check Tarrant’s out ever since beginning occasional trips to RVA back in 2021. After all, it’s a local legend and highly rated. So I was with a colleague, and we decided to try Tarrant’s out for dinner. There are a few things that matter to me. 1) Quality of the food. Tarrant’s has great food. I had a very good crab bisque, and a simple BLT, that was made not-so-simple by the inclusion of a ffried green tomato. I also had really good sweet potato fries. My colleague got something different, and he was also impressed. 2) Service. This didn’t go so well. Our server kept forgetting to bring items we requested, and although this reduced the cost for our overall meal, as they comped one of our items, our goal was getting service, not a discount. Our server was also confused about the meaning of the term “soup spoon,” which matters for bisque. 3) Ambiance. Tarrant’s was a bit loud and crowded—not at all what I expected. 3) Cost. Tarrant’s offers very good value, relative to the quality of food and portions. If I were planning a romantic dinner, this would not be the place, but for a casual business dinner, it was just fine, and I’m sure I’ll be back, and hopefully, our server will do a bit better.

Good ambience, food was solid. Prices a bit high. Service just wasn't good. We were on a lunch hour, and they took 45 minutes from the time orders were taken to deliver our food. Waitress repeatedly did that thing where she repeatedly walked right by us without stopping and while avoiding eye contact. What we have a right to expect is that our waitress will go into the kitchen and advocate for us to get our meals. Waitress should then approach us and provide updates, apologies, etc. What really rankles is, we were a group of 6, so after the service was so very poor, they hit us with a mandatory 20% tip. 20% is for Grade A service, it is not a minimum. I would not have compensated as much for this service, had I been given the option. Will not return.

The restaurant was delightful. The atmosphere is like spending an evening in the best of a Dickens novel. The service could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious.

The service was excellent. Every member of staff who we came in contact with was engaging and interested in our questions or comments. Half of our party loved their entrees. The rest of us found the food good but not excellent. The mashed potatoes were especially disappointing. But again, the staff members were fantastic!

I went for Thanksgiving dinner and was seated promptly. The wait staff was a little slow, but the place was moderately busy. The waiter was friendly and well-informed. We ordered from the holiday menu, which was a nice selection. We were a little disappointed in the amount of food and how it varied from the menu description. Desert was a must-share as it was very large and good. Will have to come back when it is not a holiday to give a full review.
