You can't believe the granduer and beauty of the Awahnee Hotel's Dining Room. It harkens back to an earlier era when lucky families could dine in elegance at this grand old palace. Unfortunately, the food, served via buffet, does not match the milieu. First off, all of the food was either cold or lukewarm. We sent our cold soup, served in ice cold dishes, back to get it warmed up. The bread rolls were dry and without any flavor we could discern. The "salads" were swimming in excess dressing to the extent that the lettuce was soggy and limp--an embarrassment to decent salads everywhere. The beef tenderloin was cold and dry. The shrimp was tossed from a frozen bag into a steamer and had little flavor--despite all of the ginger they threw into the steamer with it. The rice and mashed potatoes were equally tasteless. Desert continued the overall disappointment with the meal. The petit fores were going thru at least their second or third turn at the buffet table and they were cold and stale. The service was passable despite being served the wrong drink and having a waiter say "I'll have to ask someone" when we requested to have our cold soup rewarmed. Entirely underwhelming meal and not worth the trip downstairs to have to endure it. We left most of our food on our plates and no one bothered to ask why. Overall--yuk. What a sad meal to be served in such a grand place. Whomever in responsible for this culinary disaster should be ashamed.

The buffet experience was dissappointing. The selection was minimal and the self service resulted in food that was not warmed properly, served cool, and unpleasant to eat. I will not go back until individual chef prepared meals are restored. I expected much more from such an established and classic venue.

It’s a buffet. Not quite what I call fine dining.

Our experience at the Ahwahnee Hotel restaurant was excellent. The hotel is undergoing a major renovation, which apparently affects the kitchen service, so they were limited to a buffet style food selection. But the selection featured a great mix of choices from prime rib, to salmon, so chicken to gourmet mac and cheese (one of my faves!) The desserts were great, the service was great - and most importantly, the price per person ($63 not including bar items) made it a much more accessible experience. Normally dinner for two at the Ahwanhee would likely be $200-$300. This makes it a much great value, in my opinion. Well worth the effort. The ambiance is still very good, despite the construction underway. Highly recommended if you are in Yosemite Valley.

They have switched to a buffet format at dinner which was a surprise to us. The food was erratic. The pork and prime rib looked like they had been under the warming light too long. The rock fish was cold, The desert options were all room temperature pastries. For two without drinks, we paid $160+ after tax and tip. A very poor value and a very poor meal.

Wait staff under staffed for sure. Nice people, but all somehow a bit off. Our waiter always looked so harried and stressed that we hated to bother them. Another waiter (thank goodness not ours) spent 5-10 minutes at a time regaling blank faced guests at other tables about the trials and tribulations of his life. The chef slicing the roast beef looked annoyed when being called upon to get off of her stool and actually slice meat. Food was above average buffet food… but still a buffet. Finally: the insulting $10 fee to “validate” valet parking is just stupid. The large dining room with its high open beam ceiling is quite spectacular and perhaps in and of itself worth the price of admission. Still, I’d expect an overall more professional presentation and a better food experience.

What happen to the Ahwahnee? I will not bore you with the comedy of errors that was my experience. Instead I will tell you, that you will receive below average food at a high price $150/couple no alcohol plus tip for food that was lukewarm at best. Service was lacking, staff appeared stretched . Only a bad buffet is available no individual dinners. Such a grand place that has fallen into decay that may jeopardize its viability as a motel 6.
