   Elegant dining atmosphere with impeccable service with an outstanding menu and wine selection. This restaurant is one of the best dining experiences in the Dunedin area.

   Another outstanding dining experience! I live in the area and always take my guests there because Black Pearl never disappoints! It is very nice and elegant without even a hint of pretension. The service is always so spot on! The food is some of the very best I have ever had and matches or exceeds many Michelin Star restaurants where I have dined. You will pay for it but it will be worth it! It is very small- 11 tables - so you definitely need a reservation. Can’t recommend it highly enough and can’t wait to go back!!

   Perhaps my expectations were too high. The meal was well coursed and the food was wonderful. Unfortunately, the service was underwhelming. Food was plopped on the table without much consideration. Keeping in mind the size and pomp of the restaurant I found it disappointedly odd that there wasn't a walk through as courses arrived. I was anticipating far better service. My husband and I may fall into the "you're not young but you're not old" so maybe you don't care? We do care and were certainly looking for a knock-your-socks-off experience. We opted for two desserts, since it was my husband's birthday and both were right up his alley and we chose not to choose. The Bananas Foster and the Tarte Tatin were both outstanding. Sadly, there was no acknowledgement of his birthday which we had mentioned. I asked for a candle after the desserts were dropped and our server brought one out on a little chocolate. The table next to us, who had a different server, had a candled dessert arrive in honor of the birthday celebration. Solid service should be the expectation for every table. The food stands on its own, but what an experience this could/should have been with more support from the front of house. Your fabulous shallot butter needs a knife and please consider doing something about your flower arrangements, perhaps a local florist, or just don't. There is nothing elevated about those oversized sprigs stuffed into bud vases.

   Came here for our anniversary. The air conditioner was out. Rather than call to cancel our reservation, they gladly took our money. Food was good. Not great, but good. For the money, would have expected the air conditioner to work - or for them to offer a reschedule or even a discount.

   We are very sorry about tonight! We didn't realize the air was going out until about 530 or so and by that time the dining room was full of guests. Meanwhile on the back end we were frantically trying to get someone to come out to fix it but out of the 6 companies we use, no one could come out until the morning. If you decide to join us again we will happily make it up to you. Sorry for your experience tonight

   Went here recently to celebrate my mother’s birthday. The service and food were wonderful! The sommelier was able to recommend some great wine pairings. The chef cooks everything to order and in a timely manner. Very great and would recommend to anyone stopping by Dunedin looking for a great meal.
