From day one, we have wanted this little restaurant to be a space where anyone can feel comfortable & welcomed. Classic French cuisine is the root of this ethos - consistent, familiar and even nostalgic flavours from the tried & true feel good classics, yet slightly elevated with a touch of whimsy. Whether you are up for a curated culinary experience with our 4 & 7 Course tasting menus (Fri & Sat evenings), or prefer to choose your own adventure with our 3-course Table D’hote menu (Wed & Thurs evenings), or are in search of an upscale lunch à la carte menu (Thur - Sat); we have you covered! Our menus are composed entirely to showcase the best local products in Lanark County & the Ottawa Valley and are tailored monthly to best celebrate the tastes of the season.     The dining experience at Black Tartan Kitchen is simply exceptional. From the food (amazing), the presentation, wine pairings, service, and ambiance, all aspects of this restaurant are outstanding. Chef Ian takes the time to describe each course and almost everything is locally sourced so you are supporting businesses and families in the community. Ian also takes the time to visit each table to ask about your dining experience. The Black Tartan is Carleton Place’s hidden gem, and we absolutely love dining there. This is a must if you appreciate great food and fine dining at its best!!

    It was our anniversary and I decided to surprise my wife with flowers. The staff agreed to let me drop them off early and then delivered them to our table during desert. I think they were more excited to do the delivery than I was. It went great!

    The food was excellent and beautifully plated. The service was excellent. Relaxed and always attentive. The atmosphere was quiet and welcoming. Not just a meal out. An experience.

    This is a very special restaurant. The food was sensational and the service was spectacular. A word of caution, if your table is close to the window, dress warmly, we were cold.

    For a great reunion with great friends the Black Tartan Kitchen was the perfect venue! Our evening began by being warmly greeted at the front door then shown to our table, which we all agreed was the perfect location to enjoy stimulating conversation. Our meal was served in a leisurely fashion so that we never felt rushed. During the course of the meal Head Chef and Owner Ian Carswell came out several times to stop at each table for a visit. As for the food, it was amazing. One of our guests at our table had come up from Owen Sound and was in search of the perfect "Blue" steak to have with her frites and she declared that it was the best she'd ever had! Both the cream of mushroom suit and the Scott-ish pies were a big hit and you can't go wrong with any of the dessert choices! Overall the Black Tartan is outstanding and well worth visiting! You won't be disappointed!
