About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
The Crathorne Arms is a great pub in a wonderful community spirited village, lovely people, Lord Crathorne himself couldn’t be more supportive, how lucky we are.

Our life has come a full circle from a town pub in Middlesbrough (well Eugene has) to the tontine (McCoys Hotel, Restaurant and Bistro) to a village pub in Crathorne, Ten Minutes from Middlesbrough.

We live above the pub, our furniture and furnishings live downstairs as they can’t and won’t fit up the stairs! So the canoe has the condiments, the bookcases our books, the huge sofa with big squashy cushions to sink into, tin lanterns reflecting patterns on the ceiling, this all makes for a homely feel and that’s what we would like to create along with good wholesome food and drink.

Of Course the staff, front of house and kitchen are all great, hardworking, smiley, enthusiastic young people and a joy to work with.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Crathorne Arms offers an exceptional dining experience in a charming village setting. Known for its "exceptional quality of food" and "fabulous atmosphere," it is popular with both locals and tourists. Standout dishes include the "seafood pancakes" and "cheese soufflé." Friendly staff and quirky decor enhance its inviting ambiance.

As a woman who has cooked many Sunday lunches, the ones I enjoy the most are the ones cooked by someone else! This was not a disappointment - in fact it was one of the nicest ones I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked beef, with a lovely selection of vegetables, a proper Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. Cauliflower cheese however, imho, has no place….but is served separately and was donated to my very grateful vegetarian brother who declared it to be perfect! All in all a lovely few hours, with delightful young staff waiting the tables - looking forward to our next visit!

As usual quality produce and chefs can't go wrong I'm a retired head chef and can apriciate the difficulty in turning out high class food on a daily basis. Well done Best wishes and thanks maurice bunting

Ample parking; Great ambiance; Attentive service; Spoilt for choice with the fine food; Crumbly black pudding to be recommended and very alternative banana boat. Made for a Happy Easter! Many thanks. Andrew & Michaela Carmichael

I went to the Crathorne Arms for nearly evening meal with my wife. I had a seafood pancake to start and the fillet steak with Parmesan truffle chips and my wife had the halibut. The food was outstanding. I couldn’t fault anything about the food or the whole experience. We both had an amazing time and can thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Lovely food as usual. Seafood pancakes and cheese soufflé some of our favourites! I liked the lamb with cous cous. Very tasty!

I would highly recommend The Crathorne Arms to anyone who may wish to visit for a drink and/or eat and dine there. A lovely establishment set in the village of Crathorne with a good size bar and restaurant area accompanied with quaint interior decor. The quality of food is exceptional and very popular with locals and visitors alike. The Seafood pancakes whether as a starter or mains are fabulous and highly recommended as are many of the dishes on offer without exception. So, if you’re in the surrounding local areas or as a visiting tourist this is a must, but be sure to book in advance to enjoy what it has to offer. Enjoy!!

Traditional Sunday lunch at its best. Wonderful Sirloin of beef, cooked to perfection. All accompaniments well prepared and served with one of the best Yorkshire pudding I’ve had. We were a table of four and unanimously agreed on the meal. We all had desserts which were also good.

Excellent food and service. I’d read recent reviews but can confirm our food was really hot. £23 a little expensive for a one course Sunday lunch which may deter some.
