About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
Located just a few miles from Stratford-upon-Avon, it offers the perfect country retreat and is an ideal base from which to explore Shakespeare’s haunts as well as the rolling hills and river valleys of the Cotswolds.

Steeped in history, the building once housed the local blacksmith and in the 18th Century became a popular Coaching Inn. It remains Armscote’s only pub and, saved and sensitively refurbished in 2013 by the family behind Baylis & Harding, it retains many distinctive character features. Beautiful exposed beams, flagstone floors and magnificent fireplaces give that rustic feel with clever and contemporary touches, lending this remarkable building a luxurious yet comfortable atmosphere, which can’t fail to charm. We welcome children and four-legged friends and our pub garden is ideal for families to enjoy leisurely lunches, drinks or snacks whilst the beautifully landscaped courtyard garden offers a sophisticated area to drink or dine.

The most amazing food and a perfect setting for our birthday celebration !! Rack of Lamb was cooked to perfection as was the fillet of beef which was sublime. The crumble came with lashings of homemade custard (yummy) - washed down with a 'pawnstar' cocktail !! And it did not break the bank - Highly recommended

Gastropub in pretty north Cotswolds hamlet. Scallops were succulent and delicious, chicken moist and lamb cutlets pink and juicy.

Today's fish was hake served with asparagus, samphire, and crushed new potatoes. It was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten and the price was very reasonable.

Really disappointed with the restaurant. Had driven an hour to get here because of ratings, had asked to be seated at a quieter table as one of our party has sensory issues, was slap bang in the middle. My side plate was dirty with a chunk of dried on food, service was ridiculously slow with dirty plates left for over ten minutes at a time and waiting staff were slow to ask if we wanted further drinks. Food was okay, enjoyed the oysters, but the quack and chips which all 3 of us had was average at best. The room itself was really cold, with several older patrons sat in their coats as they ate. It really wasn't anywhere near as good as I expected, and for the money we paid, I expected a much higher standard.

We had lunch at the Fuzzy Duck for the first time today and were not disappointed. Delicious day boat fish dish, good service and a pleasant atmosphere.

After enjoying two mid-week lunches, tried Sunday lunch. Disappointing main course: Asked for pink lamb - received medium. Could not get my knife through one slice. Yorkshire pudding totally overcooked. By contrast the al dente mixed vegetables were very nicely done. The only person who asked how the meal was going was the bus boy at the end of the meal.
