Did not like the table location. We sat where everyone lines up and waits for tables. Will ask for a table in “main dining” next time. Food was great.

Ok so I do not write reviews often but this was SO disappointing. What kind of Italian food is this? You can tell chef Joey has never had good Italian before. I’m an Italian foodie from NY- I KNOW good Italian. Who mixes mint with ricotta and zucchini? Eggplant parm? It was oily mushy eggplant with melted mozzarella on top and the skin was hard as a rock. But the worst part was this short rib lasagna- which honestly sounded good- but WOW. First of all this thing must have weighed 15lbs, I kid you not. I needed a steak knife to cut through it. It was like 20 layers of pasta, blah short rib, dried out bechamel sauce (which was an ingredient I was looking forward to), no ricotta even though it said there was- and did I mention it weighed 15lbs? The only thing we liked was the bread. I honestly felt bad that I didn’t eat the 15lb lasagna that I asked for a box- which I “conveniently” left on the table only to have the waiter chase out after us and hand it back to me, so I guess you can say the service was good. That’s about it- I enjoyed my Coca Cola and bread.

The Italiano did not disappoint. The service (waiter was Mario from Italy) was excellent and Mario was engaging and knowledgeable about the food and wine. The food was excellent as well. We tasted a variety of the menu, and everything was well prepared and delicious. The pasta was homemade and cooked perfectly (cacio e pepe - off menu), the appetizers (eggplant, shrimp, meatballs) were tasty as well. The chicken parm with rigatoni (spicy), pork chop Brooklyn style, and Caesar salads with white anchovies from Sicily were fantastic. It has been stated by other reviews that the live piano player is a tad loud, and we learned that they are working on softening the sound a bit. It is interesting to note that when the player took a break, the background music was toned down and it made the overall conversation experience better. Katy, the hostess, was friendly and fun to speak with as were several other waiters and staff. We shared the dining room with a well know sports figure and his family and there was an eclectic mix of patrons. The overall experience was one that we would definitely repeat again and again. The overall value for the food and wine was right where it should be for this Italian restaurant. Kudos to Chef Joey and his whole staff.

We got reservations on Open Table for 4:15 to dine after a movie in the neighborhood. Having eaten at the Sicilian Butcher and enjoying it numerous times we thought it would be worth a try. Unfortunately we were greeted upon arrival with a question about whether we were traveling for some reason. We were then seated at a table near the grand player piano where we had to listen to the nice Muzak and the player piano at the same time. The result of course is dissonance. The waiter said he would have given us a table far from the piano if he had seated us. The food however was the savior of our venture to a new restaurant as it was delicious and visually enticing. The greeter and the dissonance failed to match the food. Why we were questioned rather than just greeted puzzled me. It wasn’t a welcoming feeling.
