The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We were sat at a lovely table by the window by a friendly male employee. However when our waitress came over (Abbie M), she seemed so unhappy. Our food came quickly and was delicious. Drinks were great too. But we just didn’t feel like we were wanted there. The service was flat, I don’t know how else to describe it. For such a well- known, expensive establishment, Abbie our server, seemed to simply not care - asking quite passive aggressively if we could ‘remove our napkins’ so that she could place the food down… and then when we asked to split the bill down the middle (service charge included) she asked if she could add an extra 30p on top because she couldn’t do the maths. We declined and said we would tell her what half was, and then she suddenly knew the answer! A bit strange we thought and normally I wouldn’t care but the service was just so unfriendly we actually wanted to make a point! I came here to have a Christmas catch up with a friend and we found ourselves almost pushed out despite the restaurant being quite empty on a Monday afternoon. We went elsewhere to catch up, purchasing more drinks and cake at a friendlier establishment down the road. Overall we were left unimpressed with the service but we did love the food and decor! Both staff at the front desk wished us a lovely day as we were leaving and we just wished they had served us instead!

Beautiful venue and it felt very festive. Unfortunately we (group of 4) were shown to a small table on the side of the restaurant (opposite to castle side) Our festive afternoon tea arrived and it looked stunning and we had the dry ice show which was quite magical. We began with the sandwiches, the chicken brioche was very tasty, the salmon one was nice but a bit bland and finally we tried the cucumber and courgette sandwich which all fell apart as we were trying to eat it as it had nothing inside to stick the ingredients together - it could have done with some cream cheese or something similar, again it was very bland. After 15 minutes of eating our sandwiches we realised we hadn't been offered our tea. So it then took 10 minutes to catch someone's eye to request it. Once arrived we let it stew and then when I had poured the tea we realised we had no milk. So again, another 10 minutes to catch someone's eye to ask for milk. The fruit scones were beautiful tasting but we didn't have enough jam so had to request more of this. We had a choice of 4 cakes, the festive battenburg was lovely and had a nice flavour, the chocolate snowball was very good, the mini mince pie was tasty but tiny and the eclair looked great but tasted very strange it was orange and cranberry, I personally like this one the least. At some point during the tea a safety blanket came down behind my seat without warning which was alarming as we were then sectioned off from the restaurant. A waitress then came over and said you can exit out the side door if you wish but its only a fire precaution so not to worry - apparently it was kids outside that had pressed a button?!?! anyway it came back up and we had a round of applause with the rest of the restaurant. I love the Ivy but I do feel that service and food let it down on Saturday.

Poor service - 35 minutes for food order to be taken. Starters - excellent Mains - both steaks were very poor quality. My wife’s fillet was inedible because of the fat, apparently that’s because it was French according to a waiter. Didn’t hang around for desert as we had been there for 2 hours by then.

Staff are very nice but the service is reliably poor. If you put the wine away from us then you need to serve it and not make us feel uncomfortable when we have to remind you!

Ok so booking was probably my fault .. thought I’d booked the ivy Asia next door . So ended up at the ivy . Restaurant itself is very nice but a bit dark . Not the first time I’d eaten here , but first time at night . Music was very loud , noise level was loud so couldn’t hear the waitress. Food was good , but … we had the steak and it was pretty much cold when it came out , and was under cooked. Wasn’t much chance of sending g it back as waitress was hardly around as she was looking after multiple tables . £32.50 for a fillet was expensive, but then had to add sauces and sides , so veg and chips .. main course was approx £55 a head . £50 for the most average bottle of red . No beer on tap . We eat out aloy , so I don’t mind paying the price if it’s good value . Unfortunately at nearly £400 for 4 of us I thought was very expensive for something that was pretty average to be totally honest (had a better meal in the local pub a few weeks back and was half the price !). I think go if you like it … but there are definitely better restaurants to eat in in Guildford that offer better value for money .
