Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure. When weather permits, guests can enjoy their dinner on our outdoor patio, soaking in the last rays of sunshine in the heart of Oregon Wine Country.

Elevated dining experience with knowledgeable staff and a mushroom influenced menu that is eclectic and exceptional. The Oregon Pinot Noir wine cellar is unsurpassed and sommelier advice that listens and utilizes a deep knowledge of local vines and winemakers. Enjoy!

The team at Joel Palmer House overdelivers every time we eat there—attention to detail, authentic service commitment, and the food—yes, the food. We always leave wondering how they execute on all cylinders as a small family-run operation. Anyway, you can't go wrong unless you have this wine-country experience.

Don’t waste your money on this over priced dining experience. We chose the most expensive dining option the Omakase $325 per person experience (not including wine). According to the description the meal was to start with a glass of Oregon sparkling wine. The som immediately tried to up sell me to a half bottle of Krug that would cost $150. We wanted to pair wine with most courses . The som got the pairing wrong on nearly every course and repeatedly suggested an Oregon Pinot would pair with every course. That was not correct. Each course had too much going on with it, too many flavors that covered the core ingredient and masked the flavor. Also too many heavy courses and not enough variety of texture. We were extremely disappointed and felt like we wasted nearly $1000.

Speechless, what a find out here in Oregon. We had the Total Omakase experience and every course was memorable. The staff were like no other in any NYC restaurant we have been to. Every one of them was very attentive. We were greeted by Alex, the mixologist at the door. He made us a cocktail, I believe was called Honeywood Incident, I maybe wrong, a smokey rye cocktail with honey that I sipped ever so slowly. Delicious and one to savor. A special shout out to Marcus, the pastry chef whose plate of four desserts was an absolute work of art. We were beyond full at that point but ate it all. Incredible, expensive, but worth every penny. We will be back.

This is s set menu with very heavy emphasis on mushrooms. It was pricey and several of the dishes came out warm not hot. Service was excellent though.
