Steeped in history, The Lion dates back about 500 years, and was built when King Charles I was on the British throne and even before the famous Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Originally constructed as a house, for centuries the quirky building has been welcoming visitors as a traditional British pub. With its low ceilings, exposed beams and homely inglenook fireplaces, it has all the charm of what you expect from a historic pub and restaurant. Listed as one of the Britain’s most important buildings, this is a slice of history set right in the heart of the Somerset countryside in a popular English village. The characterful and homely rooms offer a comfortable stay for those wanting to holiday or spend a night or two in this stunning part of the UK.

We’re also dog lovers, so your well behaved pooches will get a warm welcome.

The food was excellent, being a Monday it was quiet which I appreciated. The only draw back was the bench seat, too narrow for comfort. But as I had chosen to sit there this was down to me. I will know better in future.

Really enjoyed our dining experiences whilst staying at the Lion. The food is good quality so not your average pub grub, which is why it costs more, but so much nicer and not your normal run of the mill menu. The staff are all super friendly and efficient which made our stay there so enjoyable.

Eaten here before and was excellent this time not so good. Dreadful pork large fatty undercooked slab which to be fair they did change for chicken but chicken isn’t what I’d wanted! Not the cheapest Sunday lunch either so won’t be going again for a while. Shame as we are very close by.

Hi Tina, Thanks for taking the time to review your Sunday Lunch with us. I'm sorry you found our pork belly too fatty for you, it's a fatty cut compared to others. We had no other complaints about it on Sunday, however I'm glad we could substitute it for an alternative. Thanks again, The Lion

Our server Abby was amazing she was very friendly and was able to help us whilst we waited for friends to arrive. Offering us ideas of food to keep us occupied. Food is amazing - Sunday Roast is some of the best we have eaten. Thank you for a great time and we will be back.

Above average pub with a lovely atmosphere, little enclaves with log burners and leather sofas. Interesting menu and tasty food.
