   I can never fault the Malt Shovel. Food is always immense. Cooked to perfection, served hot. Portions are huge, always too much for me and feel guilty when I have to life some as it's no reflection on the meal itself We brought friends from our the area today and also very impressed Would highly recommend and always always book.    I was disappointed. We asked for the restaurant in our request on booking and ended up in the bar where the music was too loud so couldn’t hear each other.the fire was on too and we were sat near there so it was so heat which was uncomfortable. The staff seemed to forget about us when ordering. We waited 15mins for two drinks. It just seemed very hectic. The food wasn’t as good either as previous times that we have been. We both asked for a medium rare steak yet both more rare.

   We drove miles to what we thought was a reserved table through your app. On arrival the food looked great and the pub OK. We asked for our table and were directed to a high table in the front porch as confirmed on the app and by the waitress We saw there wasn’t a table for us so returned to the waitress or restaurant manager and were told that someone must have had our table (wow!) and were asked to sit in an empty, soulless outside temporary structure! Can’t believe they would not move the people who had taken our reserved table and we left disappointed This has never happened before and maybe because it was so busy the staff didn’t want to know! Won’t be there again

   Always a great place to eat . Staff go out of their way to help. Feel chef is rushed sometimes . I believe hot plates is key to keeping food warm .... Definitely re-visit

   I ordered a sirloin steak to be cooked medium rare. When I cut into it it was very tough to the point that the steak knife I had couldn’t even cut it. I hate complaining so I never do but I was waiting for the waitress to come and ask how our food was and that never happened. The steak was also completely red inside and my wife even said that steak looks awful. I ate everything apart from the steak. When I went to pay I mentioned the steak to the bar person and she said she would speak to the manager, which she did and she said she would let us off with 50% of the cost of the steak. We didn’t even get an apology and when we paid there was no thankyou or sorry for your steak. It wasn’t until I’d got home that I thought how I shouldn’t have paid for the steak at all. But we live and learn. Because of the lack of apology and the way I was made to feel bad for complaining I won’t be going back to the malt shovel again.

    Delicious home made food, excellent quality and price Staff are extremely polite and helpful Thus is a lovely village pub, the atmosphere and ambience is always delightful
