The Nag's Head is a quintessential English pub in a village called Haughton Moss, near Tarporley in rural Cheshire. It has been re-mixed and re-imagined by the people behind the multi-award winning Altrincham Market; Mackie Mayor, Manchester and Picturedrome, Macclesfield.

The Nag's Head is a listed building that dates back to its origin as a Smithy in the 1740's, on the trade route connecting the ports of Liverpool and North Wales to the Potteries.

At The Nag's Head sister venues we have earned a reputation for high quality food, delivered in beautiful buildings, served informally. The point? - to make eating out with family, with friends, with kids with dogs accessible, rewarding and part of your 'everyday'.

Expect seasonal changes, kitchen co-labs with our sister venues, glamping, growing and outdoorsy stuff on our adjoining 4 acres in the not-too-distant future.

Good was nice. Server forgot to add on a side dish so that came at the end of the meal (too kate). Side dish seemed rushed. For inconvenience they knocked 1.40 (that is one pund and 40 pence). Next time I will remember to ask them to drop the service charge they automatically add to the bill Food was quite nice.

I recently enjoyed a delightful lunchtime meal with friends at The Nags Head, and it was an experience worth sharing. The pub exudes a warm and cosy charm, making it the perfect setting for a relaxed get-together. The menu was full of tempting options, but we opted for the rarebit and a hearty pie for our mains. Both dishes were absolutely delicious—comfort food at its finest. The Welsh rarebit was rich, cheesy, and perfectly seasoned, while the pie was a masterpiece, with a golden, flaky crust and a filling that was both flavorful and satisfying. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming atmosphere of this lovely pub. It’s clear that great care goes into both the food and the overall experience. If you’re looking for a cosy spot with excellent food and a great ambiance, I highly recommend The Nags Head. I’ll certainly be back!

Venue is lovely & good pub atmosphere. Everything was okay with food & service but we had two gripes. Our child wanted toast which wasn’t on menu. Helpfully this was accommodated but £5 charge for a slice of toast does seem excessive. Also, my Sticky Date Pudding was served with custard rather than the advertised butterscotch sauce. I wasn’t informed about this & I think kitchen were hoping I wouldn’t complain or send back, which isn’t exactly putting the customer first.

My only slight criticism would be with the cheese & bubble and sqeak pie. As it had cabbage inside it it definitely needed serving with a different veg instead of more cabbage . As a vegetarian I love cabbage but I felt this needed something different to compliment the pie . Sweet potato would work great with it .

Having found this stunning picturesque pub nestled in the woods like something from a Christmas card or a fairytale book, we joyously booked it to start the festive period on the last day of school hoping it would be the start of many more visits with family and friends. Unfortunately our experience was so disappointing and flat that it ruined the evening and that crestfallen feeling presided into a new week. The food was average but without the average price tag. A mocktail arrived incorrectly made. Second time, it still came without the mint leaf despite its clear labelling in the lovely worded description. The starter soup of the day had no name and was just lukewarm served in a hot bowl! This was evident as soon as the bowl was placed on the table. Cold soup is not the same as hot steaming soup. This went back too. My beef and pork ragu on sourdough was cold on top but hot underneath. Tobasco sauce came in a mini pouring jug. Never seen that before. It’s not a sauce. My husband’s burger was put together with raw tomatoes, what looked like the cheap orange plastic cheese in a very unappealing bun. That was it on a big round plate. Chips in a bowl on the side just tasted of oil. Only the drink was taken off the menu and service was added on top. A huge disappointment and a big contrast to its outward appearance suggesting lovely classy food in a stunning setting. The food was neither rustic nor fine dining. Just basic, uninspiring and unappealing. While the serving staff tried their best they couldn’t turn it around to a positive experience. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.

Had the very best Sunday lunch at The Nags Head. The beef was tender and flavoursome, my sister had the roast chicken and I had a delicious mushroom and leek pie. All the vegetable side dishes were gorgeous. It was not a cheap outing but as it was so good and all local produce we did not mind paying. We will definitely be back!
