I didn’t get tetanus but I was oxidising until the 4-5 staff noticed me standing around to claim my booking. Service was reluctant and could preferably be mildly engaging or more hospitable. Ordering is at the bar or via app but this was not explained when we were seated. Food and drink delivery was zippy. Charcuterie board was very basic with a small wedge of Aussie Brie of sorts. Tapas selection was tasty but portions were modest and overpriced. Craft beer was ok if a little flat. Overall it wasn’t a bad experience but it didn’t match the high ratings and positive reviews that brought me to choose The Rusty Nail.

Party of 8, we were seated downstairs and had the small cellar/basement to ourselves were there were lounges, small tables. was a really good vibe/feel. Even put our own music on in the room. Food was fantastic, arancini balls were to die for and the honey coated cheese soooooo yum!

What a gem! We live in the Scenic Rim so are lucky to have a number of fine dining places to choose from however my love of cocktails, good food and conversation is only satisfied when we make the trek into the valley for a popular wine bar or the exclusive IYKYK cocktail bar hidden down a dark lane way. The Rusty Nail would definitely hold its own in the fast pace of the Fortitude Valley, however selfishly I’m glad they’ve decided to make Ipswich their home. The holy trinity of places like this is hard to obtain but they have done it and all without pomp and ceremony. A range of alcohol and non alcoholic options to choose from, a cocktail list that is familiar but also exciting. Food that is not just the wing man but delicious in its own right. Ambience that leaves you with the familiar buzz only the valley usually provides. Most importantly and this usually is what lets places like this, outside of the city or valley, down and drags you back to the reality of its location, the service. The service is fast and efficient, it actually puts some big name places to shame. With the option of person to person ordering or QR code ordering for people who don’t want to stop their conversation to get another drink. The bar staff are not intrusive, they are polite and engage as much or as little as you wish. The place gets busy but they don’t ever lose their efficiency. This place definitely smashes the Ipswich stereotype right out of the park!

We dined there just before going to the theatre to see Guys & Dolls. It was a very good experience with a good selection of Tapas and other dishes. Guinness on tap and a wide selection of drinks. If you prefer to be seated it is best to book early. Will go back there again soon.
