Arizona's Original Steakhouse.

Step through the copper entry doors and feel the warm authentic atmosphere of this classic American Steakhouse. Once adjacent to the largest feedlot in the world, the restaurant is a living history museum that documents Arizona's cattle industry with historical photos and a Western Art collection. Established in 1947, The Stockyards has been serving the best hand-cut aged steaks and prime rib for 70 years. The menu also features wild game, seafood, poultry, pork, and a wide variety of appetizers, salads and desserts. Be sure to visit the 1889 Saloon where you will find a solid mahogany hand carved bar, crystal chandeliers, and walls adorned with original murals that were painted in the 50's. Step back in time and relax while you enjoy an Arizona landmark. Banquet space and private dining rooms are available, and The Stockyards is always an excellent choice for groups.

I was concerned that this historic, western place might be a restaurant that used to be good and now was just kitchy. But I was impressed with the quality of the food, especially the steaks. It’s decor is old school western. Diners dress very casually. You’ll see jeans and even some cowboy hats. It has a large mahogany bar area. It’s really a very cool place it you appreciate history. Service was good. Steaks are pricey. But it’s definitely worth a visit.

Steak was overcooked and cold (a weird combination); service was slow; extremely noisy dining environment, making it difficult to have a comfortable conversation without shouting which only adds to the cacophony. Wine was good, though. We will probably not return for anything other than lunch.

My wife and I have been dining at the Stockyard Restaurant since the late nineties. We were introduced to the Stockyard by a close friend who regularly took his clients there. We are from eastern Canada and spent our winters in Mesa since 1994. Whenever we had special event or had visitors staying with us, we would bring them to The Stockyard and or visit the 1889 Saloon. The food and service provided was always excellent. This latest visit was in celebration of my 80th birthday and again the food and service was outstanding. I highly recommend this great establishment. The atmosphere in the 1889 Saloon is very much worth seeing.
