About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
Based in Greetham, The Wheatsheaf is 6 miles from Oakham and 4 miles from Rutland Water. Carol and Scott took over the Wheatsheaf in March 2008. The seasonal Modern British menu changes weekly. The wine list is based on wines from around the world with a good selection by the glass. We also have an excellent selection of beers and local cask ales.

In 2021 The Wheatsheaf was a new entry in The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastro Pubs and was also awarded The Michelin Red Plate.

We are closed on Mondays and Tuesday except Bank Holidays.

The food was absolutely fantastic! The service was friendly and they were so good about the allergies (they were mindful of them without making a big deal and making us feel awkward as restaurants often do). It's also a gorgeous place. I'd recommend it highly.

There is a lot of choice in Rutland if you are looking for a good meal and The Wheatsheaf is definitely in the top five. The menu is interesting and the food is excellently prepared and served. The wine list is extensive and impressive. This was our first visit but we were treated like customers of long standing. There were four in our party, which was for a birthday meal - there was a handwritten birthday card on the table - and the bill came to £250 including drinks and a voluntary tip. We will definitely be returning to the Wheatsheaf, in Greetham.

The food was simply delicious. Simple but the best. It may not be modern and on trend but when what you want is good food come here. Now added to my favourite places.

We returned to The Wheatsheaf for our annual farm meal. As previously the service was excellent and the food outstanding representing very good value for money. The wine list was very varied and we enjoyed the English wine which was exceptional.
