About this restaurant

  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
You’ve never seen anything like this extravagantly decorated tiki-bar funhouse from Tatsu
Aikawa and the team behind Ramen Tatsu-Ya, Kemuri Tatsu-Ya and dipdipdip Tatsu-Ya.

Recently named one of the 40 best bars in Austin by Statesman critic Matthew Odam, Tiki
Tatsu-Ya is disguised by a fake travel company on the outside, but stepping in, you’re
immediately transported to another world. The riotous colors, sound effects and over-the-top
tropical cocktails in custom mugs and glasses feel like an island vacation or 21+ Disneyland.
Shareable drinks come with fire shows, and even the food far surpasses typical bar fare with
mouthwatering dishes like Spam Musubi, Crab Lagoon, Kalua Pork and the Pu Pu Platter, which
shouldn’t be missed. Reservations are recommended.

I love Tiki-Tatsuya, and this was probably my 4th time going there. The ambiance is a cool retro travel agency meets island tiki vibe. It's pretty cool. The drinks are great, and the food is good too. I recommend the Pu-Pu platter. I have had some fantastic experiences sitting at the bar just nerding out on different rums with the bartenders. Service at tables can be hit or miss. This past time, we had great dinner and drinks, but had a not so great experience, which has really changed my perception of this place. We opted to get one of the tiki mugs advertised on their menu for $30, so we could give it to my little daughter. They brought the tiki mug and the check. I noticed the check was much higher than anticipated. Looking through it, they decided to - without any warning - overcharge us for the tiki mug at a price of $75. $75 for a ceramic tiki mug. We asked why this was suddenly so expensive when the menu clearly states $30, and they told us about it being a limited edition. I asked to remove it and they pushed back, had their manager come over and re-explain. After much deliberation, we finally got it removed, and sent their tiki mug back. This whole thing left a really sour impression on someone that loves to go to the place. I felt had I not noticed, I would have been bamboozled with a bait-and-switch. Look, I love the food and cocktails, but as a loyal customer, this is not cool. After this, I am not sure if I really want to come back here again.

I feel the food was overpriced for the amount we got. The food truck wasn’t even there that they said makes all their food so we waited for some time. And yet the food was cold .The drinks were amazing but also overpriced as well.

As a party of 12, we celebrated a birthday. It was a surprise for the guest, and the staff was very accommodating and made the evening special. The experience of this tiki bar is unlike any other. If you haven’t been, it is a must.

Is it like dining inside of the Legends of the Hidden Temple set? Totally. But is the food and drink great? Absolutely. Aesthetically it feels like an unserious tourist trap in a b-list beach town and believe it or not I mean that as a complement. It is kitschy and fun and deeply committed to the theme. The food and beverage, however, is seriously good. We have not had a bad - or even mediocre - bite or sip over the several times we’ve been. It somehow also manages to be pretty fairly priced compared to the rest of the prestige Austin dining scene. We will be back.
