This is the 3rd Ray Garcia restaurant we try. All three, Broken Spanish, Asterid and Viva, food is spicy. There is no balance, even on the common dishes such as queso fundido, quesadillas and tamales. We’ve enjoyed dinning and experiencing the vast styles of other great Mexican restaurants such as Pujol, Contramar and Quintonil but Viva sadly misses the mark because all the dishes are extra spicy. Unless you like spicy food, I do not recommend.

Overall from service to food, very good. only complaint was the cut of meat that I had was extremely fatty. seasoned well but more fat than meat. other than that an excellent place to dine.

Sunday dj was pretty awkward, super loud and it wasn't a party vibe, he seem to be the only one enjoying the music.

Our server was fantastic. The music was WAY too loud for a restaurant, a chicken quesadilla was 22.00 and I’m not sure how much chicken was even in there. Food was moderately spicy but not denoted on the menu. No sides unless ordered and served family style.

The service was great. The staff was very attentive. Unfortunately, not much else was. The restaurant says the food is “inspired by Mexico,” which is true in the same way Taco Bell’s menu is inspired by Mexico. The food was very bland. We started with the Ceviche; it lacked any brightness you would expect from citrus, and also had no spice or saltiness in a traditional ceviche. The lack of any spiciness or saltiness permeated throughout our courses. The highlight of our meal were our ensalada courses. We ordered the Barbacoa and the Pulpo Asado. The barbacoa was well cooked, but was also not very latin in flavor. It could have been the short rib at a French restaurant. The beans that accompanied it were very bland. The pulpo asado was also well cooked. The octopus itself was grilled to perfection, but everything else on the plate lacked any inspiration or seasoning. The house made tortillas were probably the best part of our meal. They had a great chew. If your palate is not accustomed to spice, Viva might be for you. If you have any expectations of true Latin flavors, I’d keep scrolling.
