Translated from the Japanese word “home,” the original Uchi is located in a refurbished South Austin bungalow. Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole’s signature non-traditional take on Japanese food has delighted Austin’s diverse dining crowd as well as visitors from across the country and around the world since 2003. Reservations are encouraged and can be made up to 1 month in advance. Walk-in seating is limited to the Sushi Bar and is subject to wait times. Everything was perfect. The ambience, the food and the service. I’m picky about cocktails. The Duchess might be the best one I’ve ever had. Brioche bread was a die for, I ate the entire loaf alone. 100 layer cake was stunning and also delicious. This just beat out my number one favorite, Jeffery’s in town.

This place totally oozes Miami Vice, seasons 4 & 5. The staff was friendly and very Lorenz & Lorenz (on top of it). The soundtrack was PoolSuite-ish – in a good way. Our ad-libbed mocktails hit the spot, and the pizza was way better than it could have been for a place so focused on v.i.b.e.s. That kale salad was really good and deceptively generous – enough to share then take home extra (but we're old, so factor that in). The menu prices seemed a tad bloaty, but to be honest, the bill came in lower than expected. All in all, thumbs up. Come for the instagrammables; stay for the super sweet staff and good grub.

Service was great, slow night but food came out in appropriate time. My son ordered some tho of Vegas roll from specialty rolls and loved it. I had a Shrimp Tempura Roll And it tasted like a California roll and didn’t come with any eel sauce on it but they put some on after I asked for it. Cons: The music is way too loud, couldn’t hear the server and couldn’t talk to each other easily. It was very cold in there, one side of the bar was completely open to the outside which made the inside cold. The shrimp fried rice was terrible, very bland, no taste, wasn’t even edible. Lives of shrimp were cut up and added to it so made for having to dig around for any shrimp and at $18 would never order that again.
