Originally from Mexico City, Chef Fernando Olea, formerly Chef of Epazote, has been enthralling diners in Santa Fe since 1991. Chef Olea creates sophisticated flavors using Old Mexico’s indigenous and culinary traditions alongside ingredients from around the world. His menu is deliberately small, featuring fresh and locally sourced produce and meats when possible.

Nothing evokes the mystery of Mexican cuisine more than mole, a sauce of complex flavors that usually includes toasted and ground spices, seeds, nuts, chocolate and chile. Many mole recipes contain more than thirty ingredients and some recipes have five varieties of chile alone. Chef Olea is delighted to share his moles that include his "New Mexican Mole" that he created to commemorate Santa Fe’s 400 year anniversary in 2009. The large mural in the main dining room, was painted and presented to Chef Olea by Federico Leon De La Vega, a well- known artist from Mexico City.

Unfortunately, we were looking so forward to our reservation at Sazon based on all the fantastic feedback we have heard over the years, but it just didn’t meet our expectations. The ambience, lovely. The complimentary champagne toast and chef’s ice cream, lovely. The actual appetizer and dinner entree selection though, sub par. Especially for the price. Additionally our waitress had everything so scripted down to what amount of emphasis to place on what words, that it lacked individuality and personality. Instead, it was superficial and frankly annoying. The table was not level either and that shouldn’t be the practice at a restaurant that claims to be of a certain caliber. I’m so disappointed in saying this, but I’m not sure if we will return. If we do return, it would be the kind of place to sit at the bar and have a drink and appetizer/dessert.

Gabrielle was our server and she (and the rest of the staff) was excellent. Enjoyed a wide range of dishes (with a few surprises) for a very enjoyable evening.

My favorite go to Santa Fe restaurant for high quality, interesting, yummy food. Great team of servers. Fabulous artwork on the walls. Recommend sopa de amor and anything with mole- duck with mole poblano is great. Wine list is interesting and able to find good reasonably priced wines with a fair markup.

Our server was Gabriela and she was wonderful, along with the many others that attended our table. The food was fantastic, from the appetizers to the mains to the dessert. Nearly every dish was a "wow" experience. My wife, daughter and I each had a different main and each was so good that we had to share some. The ambience is very nice and the noise level is acceptable. It is an expensive place, but at least every bite was enjoyable. I recommend that you give it a try.

This is a lovely restaurant and my second visit there. I love the signature soup. First visit, it was full of crab and one of the best things I’ve ever had! Second time, 1 little bite of crab; husband had same 1 little bite in his. Still delicious but just didn’t have the attention to detail I experienced the first visit.

This is one of the best meals I've had in a few years. I'd call this approachable gastronomy. The dishes are inventive and refined, but delicious and relatable. The Sopa de Amor is probably what surprised me the most. An unexpectedly perfect combination of flavors and textures. Special mentions also for Chef Olea's original mole and the great selection of Mexican wines. With staff who deliver world-class service while remaining down to earth and honoring any special request and art-filled spaces that are cozy and engaging, Sazon gave us an experience we won't soon forget!

Wonderful experience from the location to the ambience to the food and the service. The soups were killer. Entrees wonderful and the service was clearly a focus. There is no handicap access unfortunately. My Father uses a manual wheelchair and two strong waiters helped me to lift him up the steps but this would not be possible e.g with a power wheelchair so that would be my only heads up. Otherwise, if you can afford it you should go!
