I made reservations for 2 and we had a difficult time finding the restaurant from within the mall parking garage Once we arrived to the restaurant we were greeted by staff and then we were taken from a quiet bar area with several suitable tables available to a back room and sat next to a very large party that was clearly intoxicated and incredibly loud. So loud in fact, that we had to sit next to one another, as opposed to across, so that we could hear each other speak. Several times they yelled out vulgarity and when they were leaving, proceeded to stand uncomfortably close to our table as they were talking and migrating out. For a couple that was expecting a quite intimate dining experience, this was not it. What we intended was to come to a very nice restaurant and pay a price for not only well prepared food, but also an ambiance that would be expected for that price point.

I’m partial to Harry and Izzy’s. However, the service here is exceptional.

Booked on open table months in advance for our anniversary. Two requests 1- no booth seating 2- no seating by the kitchen or a bus station . Got there on time and we were sat across from a bus station when we brought up our request we were told no other seating was available to meet our concerns. We moved to the bar and asked for the GM He showed up and said they open up one section at a time and he never knew that that section had a bus station said “ you learn something new all the time . Gave us a free round of drinks to compensate ( it was happy hour so that must really hurt them ) My drink came wrong , my wife’s steak was so dry they did make another . My prime rib ordered medium rare came rare they did offer to cook it longer but the meat had two sinu lines you couldn’t cut thru . My wife and I are foodies we’ve dined in Paris , Cairo, Amsterdam, Prague, Frankfort , Athens , Rome and more, have never had anything as poor as this experience. The huberous of this place is amazing . I guess we just looked didn’t look good enough to get and respect

The 28oz Porterhouse was the most overpriced, worst cooked steak I have ever had for a supposed famous restaurant. I have eaten at St. Elmo at least 8 times in my life, and this will be my last time. Avoid, there are many other places in Indy with better steaks and better value.

This has been a Indy must stop as long as I’ve been coming here. Still the best shrimp and cocktail sauce around. Always amazes me. I live at the beach and this is better. That said, none of us were impressed with our steaks. Two had filet, different temps. Neither finished. My ribeye was stringy and hard to cut. So much so I probably left 1/2. Smashed potatoes were dry. Caesar salad was swimming in dressing. Setting is always classic. Staff are always wonderful. Consensus was Steaks left a lot to be desired.

I love a place that embraces their history. 120 years in business is something to cheer about! Greeted with a smile by every staff member, coming and going. Shrimp cocktail rises to the hype. Dry aged beef as legit as anywhere. Great atmosphere. I would never return to Indianapolis without a visit.

We went to celebrate my son’s birthday. It was nice and charming, quiet area before it started filling up. The shrimp was memorable as always and all of our steaks were seasoned so well. Our server was on top of things and gave us personalized attention. I have never had bad service or food there. Love St. Elmo’s.
