Christmas Eve is dinner will be a curated $92/per person prix fixe. Large parties of 6+ will be invited to our family friendly, buffet-style seating. Parties of 1-5 will be served a la carte in our main dining rooms.

Since our early days as a tea room, we’ve been a respite for locals and visitors alike, offering a haven for conversation and memorable cuisine. The tradition continues as our culinary team has curated an inventive and elevated menu through New American cuisine while paying homage to the beloved dishes that have been served at the Tabard Inn for years. A DC institution since 1922, we look forward to offering our guests all the comforts of a home away from home.

Executive Chef Matthew Zafrir came to the Tabard in 2023, bringing with him experience from various fine dining restaurants around D.C. such as minibar by José Andrés, Cranes, Revelers Hour.

I enjoy the Tabard Inn but the experience of eating on their patio (I did not this time) is far superior to eating in the interior dining room. Also, I wondered where the doughnuts were that were served as "bread" last time I was there.

Dinner at the Historical Inn was a memorable experience. The waiter was very charming and friendly. The winter mulled wine was a perfect choice after coming inside from the cold. Seasonal specials were flavourful and delicious. We will definitely come back here. Pick Sunday night at 6 for dinner and enjoy the live jazz- it’s the topper on the cake

This storied restaurant, a DC staple, has a very busy Sunday brunch, and is a regular go-to for meals with a friend. We went at 1:00 to avoid the rush, had to wait a bit, then were seated indoors at a banquette table. Not our first visit, so the charming living room winding entrance was no surprise, though quite dark. The table was big, the noise level bigger, and it was difficult to hear a normal conversation. We each had an excellent latte, and different salads with a protein added—nice healthy portions and delicious. My frisée salad was a bit underdressed and the fried chicken breast dry. I asked for olive oil and it helped. My guest wanted bread, and it took a while for the waiter to reappear. Her response, “We don’t serve bread,” was appalling since they have a full menu of sandwiches. “You must have something!” I said, and she said there were biscuits and she’d have to charge us. There are many more gracious ways to handle my simple request. I said, annoyed, “it doesn’t matter what it costs.” And that was my take-away of this particular lunch at the Tabard Inn.

Table not ready at promised/reserved time. When table made available, it turned out to be a large table meant for 6-8 when our group was a party of 3. And 2 feet from a very noisy table of 12 diners enjoying a raucous celebration/reunion in a boomy, echoing room. Conversation very difficult spread around a too-big table with high ambient noise level. Food and service fine. House wines by-the-glass meh. For the substantial price, atmosphere flunked. The rest, OK. Oh, and the house needs better coat checking arrangements in cold weather when everyone wraps up. The one small hang-it-yourself coat rack completely unequal to task.

Such a cozy setting, with tablecloths and attention to details. While not as great as in years past (the bread rolls and the chocolate napoleon desert did not seem fresh), I thought the bibb salad and chicken fricassee were very good!

As always, exceptional (authentic?) welcome and service. Food was excellent. Recommend Winter Squash for vegetarians; salmon was excellent. LOVE the ambience.
