Opened in June 1922, The Tam O'Shanter boasts a rich, storied history and warm, inviting atmosphere. We’re proud to be in our 10th decade of continuous service. We originally considered it a quiet pastoral road stop, since Los Feliz Boulevard was just an unpaved country lane traversed by rabbits and rabbit hunters, in that order.
Everything changed when Walt Disney and his animators, set designers, and crews began trekking out between takes for a bite and a refreshment. So often, in fact, that the Tam was once dubbed “The Studio Commissary.”
Join us and see why the Tam is said to have been Walt’s favorite restaurant!

As a family-run establishment, we’re committed to keeping our community safe. We always practice strong hygiene protocols and rigorously adhere to all CDC food safety standards.

We come nearly every holiday season, because the carolers and ambiance are amazing. Service this year was very good, it hasn’t always been in the past. But the food… the food is always terrible. I wish they would put some effort into the menu and quality.

Such a classic and such a delight during the holiday season. It was busy but our server was warm and attentive. The carolers were such a special treat and the food was solid. Our kiddos loved being outside by the fire and the decorations carried outside so we still felt part of the festivities. We love this tradition!

Our dinner at Tam O’Shanter was excellent. My wife & I wanted the Prime Rib sandwich but it wasn’t available so we got the Tam cut Prime Rib and made our own sandwich with the sourdough bread. Doing it that way we also got sides so it worked out better. The Egg Nog was delicious.

It's fantastic to hear that your experience at our restaurant was so enjoyable, Steven! We're glad you found a creative solution with the Tam cut Prime Rib and loved our Egg Nog. Thank you for dining with us, and we look forward to your next visit!

I've been here for years and years in the last decade. I used to LOVE their chocolate souffle but the last couple times I went there they discontinued it and then this most recent time they brought it back; however, it's sort of like Pet Sematery in that it's no longer the same recipe and nowhere near as good as it was before. In the old days, the moment they take your order they would ask if you want the chocolate souffle because the kitchen needs half an hour to make it. Now, they let you order this dessert after your main meal. I should have seen this as a sign. Two chocolate souffles for $36 before taxes. Never again - not nearly worth the price. My bf said the free bday trifle was better than the souffle. Enough said. Now what is still old-time good - the French onion soup (tops - a must order! Even my picky of a eater bf loved this), prime rib (med rare), creamed corn (hopefully their creamed spinach is still the same like it was, but I didn't have it this time), and salad (fresh). Tried the Toad in the Hole for the first time and didn't care for it. Not comparable to their prime rib. Their salmon and fish and chips are better than Toad in the Hole. I think the food quality of the main courses is still tops as before, but not their desserts. Think their previous dessert chef left. And oh, a shout-out to Nick our waiter who went above and beyond! It was his 3rd day and we LOVED his service and enthusiasm! He gave the right amount of attentiveness. We will be back.

As always, service and ambience were excellent. Our party of 6 all enjoyed the food we ordered offered at a fair price price for the quality. Rated a 4 overall as we each missed some of our favs no longer offered on the brunch menu. Ces't la vie! We will be back! Thank you Tam's for another wonderfil family gathering.

We waited 45 min, before being waited on. Took an hour to get our drinks. Food was very over priced and just ok taste wise. The brisket tops were good. If I’m going to do prime rib in the future I’m going to Lawreys next time. The food wasn’t even hot. The system crashed that night and we realized that’s why the service was so slow but overall it just added to the disappointment.

Terrible experience from start to finish on Thanksgiving Day. Arrived 15 min early for reservation (made on October 4) and seated 20 min late, even though many others who arrived after us were seated prior. Woman at front desk is EXTREMELY rude and very poor choice to put her in that position as she isn’t a nice person and horrible at her job. When seated we were placed outside without access to any heat source!!!! In a weird table that jutted away from everything and was right next to the main entrance. I told the man who seated us we were cold and would like to move and he said they are overbooked and there’s nothing they can do and walked away. He was very curt and uncaring, as was our mostly MIA server. Our ENTIRE meal a central table on the patio area stayed empty which was close to 3 heat sources! And other tables in the adjoining patio area were never filled. We were told they couldn’t move a heat lamp near us because the location of our table wasn’t even under the main overhang—so why would you seat anyone there??! Of course We were totally cold our entire meal!! Awful experience, awful staff! Food took an hour to come out, while we sat in the cold. Waited a long time for everything, including the check because of a computer system malfunction. Our server just disappeared (again) after telling us she “doesn’t know what they do here” when the computer is down, so I went to tell front desk we needed to leave (and we were so cold) and the front desk woman said , “Find your server, that’s what your server is for.” Oh except she’s gone, per usual. They hunt her down and she said one computer is up and we finally get our check. We travel a lot, eat out a lot, visit California often, and this was easily the worst restaurant experience we’ve ever had. Food was ok but who cares when everything else is this bad. Still can’t believe a restaurant seats patrons outside in the cold with no heat!! Shameful.

Well it's Tam O'Shanter right? So you can expect a great Lawry's cut of meat. Great. Excellent. On this Thanksgiving day though, the place didn't seem as mobbed as I've seen it in the past. -but somehow they always make you feel like you're lucky to be there! It's not the French laundry Guys!, show a little respect and gratitude towards your over-paying guests. Got there on time but table wasn't ready. My wife and I waited at the bar for 10 min till we were noticed. No problem. -small glass of their house egg nog 17$ wow. I don't mind paying $70 for a slice of prime rib, but do you have to gouge me 40 bucks for a little nothing drink for two seniors. Then the Zinfandel (recommended) that I had with my prime rib was un-drinkable, but the fact that we didn't see a server during our dinner; it was tough for me to even complain. So I just left the glass full. Like I said, you can't complain about the quality of the beef. But sometimes it's the little things that make the experience awesome. -Shrimp cocktail? Over boiled, not crunchy mouthwatering seafood. -somebody who obviously didn't know how to peel shrimp, destroyed the appearance of each one. -Salmon? My wife had it last year and said that this year was completely different and not nearly as good. (New Chef?) How can you screw up beautiful Scottish salmon? If I am wrong someone correct me about this!! -Ice cream sunday? It definitely didn't taste like Häagen-Dazs and some quality fudge... Next time straight to Lowery's for an experience to be remembered!!
